Quote from: maximusotterespecially Jaguar, is nothing to be proud of.

Yeah but classic jags are nicer looking than any American car.

What classic car isnt at least a little bit phallic?
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

The E-Type was the reason they brought in the 70mph speed limit on UK motorways, first production car that could reliably get above the ton.

It looks sexeh... :heehaw:  :heehaw:

indeed.. a limit that is IMO too low but thats a discussion for another day

Mark

I have a 1986 Firebird SE that was originally 305ci but has been retrofitted with the 350ci. Both are as old as the ark and the car was said to have jetfighter like handling by the american press.

Jetfighter like, as in its far too solid, to the point where the trip computer actually falls off and twats you on the head when you hit a bump. The seats were built for an arse blatantly larger than mine, and the stuffing flies out of the sun visors when you have the t tops off straight into your eyes.

Water leaks into the flaps in the doors that pass for door pockets, turning them into hand washes, and the vinyl pocket velcrod to the dash where you would be lucky to find a glove box on most cars frequently falls off.

Panel fit is worse than most british cars and when you get the bonnet up you are met with 1950s technology - thats probably the same engine the designers grandfather first laid eyes on back in the day.

The auto box kicks down only when youre going round tight turns, and the back end skits all over the road like a horse with the runs.

You can start it with a screwdriver, the doors weigh about a metric tonne each, and it drinks petrol like there is no tomorrow.

But you know what? I F*cking love it, and you get more looks driving it than you would a Ferrari, and I know that as my uncle has a 355.

EDIT - and the Jag E type looks like a pile of sh*t.

actually that was the AC Cobra as it can do > 170mph

and they did that.. on some motorways..  the govt didnt like that toooo much

as for old cars, Id have one of these without a 2nd thought:

It looks like a pile of elephant dung and sounds worse.

How about some evidence? You too dave.

I had one of these, a 1964 pontiac bonneville, while living in Nashville but mine was 4-door with the big 421 engine (not the 389) and it  was grey with black vinyl top. One could lay down in the trunk or just open the trunk and put a doublebass in with out any trouble :)

and Porsche, Lotus (sunbeam), Ford, Pontiac, Hillman, Singer, Volkswagen, Scania (144L)....all better than any Citroen that I have (Except in the handling department;)), and Except for the Ford Pilot V8 as its a bit lacking in creature comforts, being 53 years old), and the Mk II 16V GTi, because it has a terrible interior.
