Knock it up, strip out the radiator and front grill etc

Knock off the rocker cover etc

Next door neighbours Subaru and Xantria in the backround... If Mark can tell me exactly what Xantria and why that one is so special and why the next door neighbour has had 7 people knocking on his door asking to buy it I would be impressed ;)

Dont turn the engine, them wet liners should be fixed down to keep the seal from breaking.

Will you point to the Wet Liners btw? :p Haynes says wet liners but dont get a pic or out...

The wet liners are what the pistons are in, the block is ally and the pistons have to work in steel, in none wet liners the liners are fitted in the ally block, in wet liners there seperate from the block and have a gasket at the bottem that seal the cylinders from the water.
And there held by the cylinder head so now its removed the pressure is released and if they move the seal will break.

Ahhhh its all locked in, just being following Haynes to near enough the exact... I really dont want to do a Bodge of this, doing a bodge is just stupid for a HG :)

What I do is use 2 head bolts with sockets and big washers to hold the liners so I can turn the engine to check the bores, and then leave them all half way down to clean the old gasket off.
If your not fixing them down just DONT turn the engine.
Good luck.

Yes its single ohc, and the car was made long after the allegro went out of production yet as the second picture clearly shows the tappets ARE adjustable, and not hydraulic as some dude might think.

Knighty: Yeah it was the HG deffently gone, there was oil in the water a large amount. Also the HG plate was worn and disgusting...

sdp: yes its an over head cam shaft... Makes life easier imo :)

filbert: I originally had worries as a lot of 205s hadve hydraulic tappets and I dont have the correct tools to re-do hydraulic ones :)

The engine  is a TU base the modern one used in 106s also. If it was the XY engine the engine would have its rear engine mount off and be jacked up as far as possible :D

You dont need no kit to time it, its not adjustable.
Check you got the belt on correctly, or as knighty said have you got the leads on in the right order?

Then you turn it back to the marks on the pullys, you only need to align the crank and cam pullys with the notches.

This is what I did:

Re-fitted the head,
Re-fitted the injection system,
Re-fitted the manifold,
Re-Fitted a New Timing Belt and the Auxillary Belt,
Re-Fitted covers,
Released the locking bolt on the timing belt,
Adjusted the tappets.
Finished the rebuild, covers, HT leads etc where all kept in the correct order I took them out.

Tho. Here is the tho. Counting from left to right, facing the engine bay:

1 was not fireing,
2,3,4 was fireing,

Taking it up the garage to get finished off, its annoyed me to much now :( Im looking at a new car in June, looking for a 106 Rallye S2. :)
