i doubt a power station will be less efficient than an IC engine,
even with all the transmission losses over powerlines its still gotta be better.

aint it?? power stations run huge freaking turbines like steam powered turbines, they get as much energy / power as they can outta each degree of heat they can dont they?

unlike in IC engines where all they run on is the explosive force and the heat is a big by product that just gets shoved into the atmosphere.

Big advantages are you dont pay fuel tax or congestion taxes.

Providing they work as advertised then they are going to sell like hot cakes.

For the environment it depends on the source of the electricity, you can select a source that offers fully green power easily enough from one of the websites, it also means you arent pumping out nasty substances in towns and the engine will be off if you stop in traffic or at lights.

Power stations run at a single constant speed they are times more efficient than cars, a petrol engine at best is 25% efficient while even an older coal powered electric generator is 29%. Latest modern coal stations are getting above 50%

As long as it doesnt retail with a massive UK premium slapped on top, Id seriously consider getting one, presuming it comes out in 2008-09. Would mean reduced to no charge for parking permit, road tax, congestion zone, etc... quite handy as I live in London.

That or an RS4 ;)  Depends how eco Im feeling.
