Post by: Rivkid on July 27, 2009, 09:39:16 AM
Someone made me a straight swap offer. ST170, 2l petrol, 02, 60K.

Punto is 05, 54K, 1.2 active sport

Not sure I can afford fuel or insuranace but the judder is slowly coming back on the Punto and kinda thinking just get rid of it?

That seems like a good deal for you, but why is he so keen to swap for a worse car?

Assuming lower running costs. I do have a couple of car savvy mates whod be checking it out prior to taking it though plus Ill be hpi checking it.

Do it, st170 is an awesome car, should be able to get about 35-40mpg out of it and you wont get better handling in any other car of a similar size, fact.

Mark your a life saver - just checked and its looking like £300 as its over 200 on the emissions. Not sure I can live with that on top of the other higher running costs. Might have to keep trying to fix this sodding Punto for a while longer yet. Hopefully Ill get this new job then were talking MR2 baby!!

the punto is sounding like its going to be a nightmare so i would be looking at getting rid asap.
the st170 is a great car but I think I would struggle to part with £300 for tax.

Its alot more saleable than a juddering 1.2 punto though so even if you swapped it ran it untill the tax ran out then sold it on for a profit and bought a boring, reliable, cheap car.

Yeah can see your point there. Must admit the Punto is driving me crazy. Its so annoying though - on the odd occassion when it works ok its sooo lovely and if I could get it like that all the time Id have no desire to get rid. Kinda feel like one day Im just going to change something and itll just click and be fine (kidding myself probably!!) Might pickup some HT leads tonight and see if it helps - I know halford ones are cheap and sh*tty but theyll prove the concept at least and I can change them for good ones later. If it doesn;t help ok lost £50 but will definitley know to get rid.

I miss my Pug 106 rallye, that was only £120 a year!

Ive seen adverts for those Pug 107s and I was very tempted to go and see if I could get finance on one for £100 a month and £100 deposit. But then I came around to my senses and said I wont get accepted on finance.

If you can get more for the ST170 why not swap it and then sell it like a month later?

Made some progress here! In the works car park at 5.30pm I took the HT leads completely off and wd40d both ends, and put insulation tape around some of the other wires in the engine bay that looked a little worn. Ive now done about 60 miles in it back from work and around the area and it hasnt missed a beat - its been flawless. Now it did this for a little while when I did the one end last time then started again after a day, but either way I think weve definitely proved its the HT leads! About to order the new ones now.

God it drives nice when its well!!

Nowhere near as nicely as an ST170 would though, fact.
