Am I alone in thinking that those of us who love the internal combustion engine, particularly the high performance variety are going to become social pariahs over the next few years, and taxed beyond the realms of affordability?

The government has already started with the bullsh*t carbon footprint buzzwords and associated campaigns - whats next? Well all be driving around in hybrids or something that does 0-30 in 4 weeks, and has to be recharged (At a huge cost) or pay ridiculous tax for anything with a bit of performance!

In the south of ireland, car tax depending on co2 emissions exists (like in the uk) - but the charges there are astonishing - thats the way the UK is headed, and just to give you an idea - if you had something like a Golf R32, youd be paying about 1300 euro, or nearly £900 a year. And that is set to rise, with climate change being used as the basis.

There are already articles out there saying UK fuel price hike should cut pollution. Road pricing will be so much easier to bring in under the banner of environmental concern.

Scary biscuits...

Thats socialists fella. As bad as communism, but at least communism works in theory.

Robin Hood isnt a myth... its a Metaphor.

The goverment should charge all those big f**ked off trucks on the road from abroad. They use our roads & pollute our towns & cities, yet drive over here for free.

A problem with hybrids is the environmental inpact the manufactoring of the batteries do. The carbon footprint
is a complex issue, best is to reduce transport of things that can be produced nearby and such things, not to tax the hell out of everything so only the rich can continue to pollute.

Cypher

Hybrids are an expensive way to make you feel you are saving the amazonian rain forrests.

If you want to get far cheaply/greenly & half quick by a diesel golf or lupo.

Chris

Well I can get on a slightly higher horse than petrol car owners by saying I drive an economical, less poluting diesel and run it on part biofuel.

However none of the above is for concern about the environment, but for the sake of my pocket - but as Mark says, they will both be the same thing the way things are going.

Bacon

If your a fat gti owner who likes smoking your f**ked.

Or at least this is the way it seems to be going now!

Bubbles!!

It wouldnt work. Person A does 8k miles per year in a porsche, person B does 30k per year in a 40mpg tractor...
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.
