Whats the Daewoo Matiz like?
on: December 15, 2007, 14:58:31 PM
Anyone have any experience of the Matiz? Ive just done an insurance quote on one and it was a low price...

Just thinking right now... Parts should be fine to find and they are quite good on fuel?

There ok for what they are, biggest problem in older ones is overheating, head gasket goes and inlet manifold melts.

I had a Daewoo Nexia once, it was a great car for the money I paid...

However, it was pretty much a Mk2 Astra, so it wasnt exactly a Daewoo, more of a rebadged Vauxhall.

the Matiz are OK.  Though very tinny, and they arent a "good" drive.  if you just want something to nip round town in, and you dont do much motorway miliage then youll be fine.  the minus is the little 900cc (or 850 or whatever) egine.  Its gutless.

Yeah I dont do much motorway miles, my top speed on the way to work is probably 60mph on the A road but that is short lived most mornings.

The last long journey I did was to Wales last August and before that Europe.

My Pug is going to cost a lot of £££ to fix as it has engine problems that apparently the garage need to take the head off the engine so as to find out what the problems are, they think its the cam shaft. Thats a 6 hr job. they tell me.

So Im thinking put my 106 Rallye into some sort of storage until I can afford to fix it. Selling it is pointless as I LOVE the car, its so much fun to drive. And with the problems it has I wouldnt get much money at all.

So Im thinking get a Daewoo Matiz, and use it as itd be cheaper both on insurance and petrol compared my Peugeot.

I rarely have to carry any loads in my car, greater than 2 extra people. But I am considering keeping my pug for life, as it is the 1st car I ever bought. (excluding the Volvo my dad gave to me, that I crashed a few months after)

And for storage, I think I can swing my uncle around to letting me put it in one of his garages at one of his shops.

If you want cheap motoring, AX derv. 80+ mpg

6 hours to take a head off is a bit on the severe side of ridiculous. Do it yourself. What exactly is wrong with it ? If thats what theyre looking to charge you get a new engine and swap it yourself, it couldnt be easier in that car.

Well, I dont really want another 106 as I have one.

The matiz is small and maybe unsafe, but then again, which cheap small car isnt?

I also cant find any AX or Pug 106 Diesels on fleabay or auto trader in the region around me, unless I increase my price by a long way.

Il get the buss for a few months and then see how much I can save for the car I think.

OK then, Get a ZX straight diesel with a BOSCH injector pump, and run on vegetable oil/diesel mix. Or get a heater and run on 90% veg oil

Car should be about 3-400 for a mid nineties

Theyll do 3-400,000 miles no problem.
