Title: Bashrings and Chainwheels... only no narnia!
Post by: M3ta7h3ad on March 26, 2007, 21:51:59 PM
Bloody bloody arse bloody bloody.

Riding home from work, I change into my largest chainring and my highest gear to do my usual 50mtr sprint to 30mph then to 0mph (traffic light) on the way home. Change, put the power down and clunk... click click click... PING! and im almost thrown off of the bike, the spds saved me flying over my handlebars, except I had stopped so frantically disengaged and got my foot on the floor.

Cue stamping on my chain to free it from between my chainwheel and bashring. It had sheared a bolt off and gone underneath the bashring and up the otherside.

Spent 5 minutes stopped in an area renowned for stabbings, prostitution, and drugs with 5 guys hiding behind a shed watching me whilst doing nefarious things no doubt.

Got home, snapped the bashring in half, some bolts are missing (how important are they??) and im covered in oil.

Today was a rather crap day.

OK, then. How about some Impels (http://aebike.com/page.cfm?PageID=30&action=details&sku=CR8892) and a half liter of bourbon? Final offer, dont be shy!

Cant tell you if youre missing anything vital w/o a pic. Its likely a modest pants guard, not a bashring. :P

Im a stickler for terms...  Id like to meet a man who can actually snap a bashring in half.  I think what your refering to is a chain guard.  To stop your big ring eating your trousers.

Looks like you also need a copy of Spang Guard too

Rahhh Fear the handyman who is the rich.

Well its a chainguard then Mr Soopah :), appears to have snapped cleanly in two, only bolts that have been sheared are those which hold it on. Nothing gone off of the spider thank goodness.
