Good move, regular games, big bucks and a move no doubt Posh had some say in.
Hell obviously be able to start up/maintain his Soccer Schools aswell.
cough
"David Beckham has announced he is to leave Real Madrid and join Los Angeles Galaxy for a staggering Ã,£129m 5-year deal."

LA is the premier team over here, lots of charismatic types like Alexi Lalas play for them. I guess the Chicago Fire just didnt have the bucks to grab him, as LAs such an enormous football market, especially with the large hispanic population.

The Hispanics got their own team in LA aint they? Chivas USA. Sister team to the Mexican Outfit Chivas.
The Yanks are going to be dissapointed when they realise hes not a Pele or George Best & all he is good at is set pieces...
Erm, It would be like Vinatieri coming to the UK to play Rugby for The Wasps.
He is brilliant at set pieces, and hes not half bad on the field. I think his value is a combo of quite reliable penalty and set pieces, solid midfield play, leadership, and name recognition. No, hes no Pele, but hes definitely got value as a player. Hell get tickets sold, and thats what pays the salaries.
Chivas USA is definitely trying to grab some of the market share from the Mexican leagues that are popular in LA, but the Galaxy are still popular with latinos, AFAIK. In Chicago the Fire would play on the south side at Soldier Field, walking distance from a traditionally Mexican neighborhood. Gringo players be damned, it seemed like the vast majority of the fans were latino whenever Id pass through on game day.
Well we all know who wears the dresses and who wears the trousers in that family.

Well, they better play at the rosebowl & sell out every game for $15 a head :o
Or stay where they are in Carson & hope they can sell out charging $45 a head..
thats just to cover his million dollar weekly salary.. at least thats whats reported here.
Nice work if you can get it
Theres all sorts of other revenues. Concessions, licensed merchandise, international TV rights...
It IS an obscene amount of money, but they must have a way of getting it.
Good move if you ask me, he would have been unfairly pilloried had he come back here.
Always will have a soft spot in my heart as a manc because without him, that night in Barca wouldve turned out a hell of a lot differently. (Not to mention how many fewer goals England wouldve managed under an already fairly paltry total at the last WC).
Good luck to the lad, and if all goes wrong, he can always try knobbing Katie Holmes for a bit of Sport, cos I sure would.
Id love for him to save Kate from Tom. A public fight...it would be great. /dream
Seems like a bit of a semi-retirement move. Its what some of the age old greats have done over the years. Finish of their football playing in some obscure place. Obscure as in opposed to anywhere else.
I still cant see how you can justify the money.
An annual salary of $10m
His existing sponsorship contracts with his four sponsors - Motorola, Pepsi, Gillette and Volkswagen - are estimated to be worth $25m
His merchandising shirt sales will bring in $10m
His share of the club profits: $10m
That adds up to $55m. Multiply it by the five year contract and you get $275m

Easy to Justify it....
Would you turn it down?
Shut the * up then

Not sure he was saying that hed turn it down, just that how can anyone be worth that amount of money.
No, Beckham has nowhere else to go tbh. Hes had his peak and the standard of USA football is below that of Europe in terms of its competitiveness, its got to be for money tbh... it cant be to advance his "career". Gary Lineker went to Japan and I am sure he did very well out of it too, the USA was about the only place Beckham could go in the world.
Cheers
Tongy
hes got his head screwed on straight, he gets a sh*t load of money, an american visa with i imagine a great view to becoming a permanent citizen
no brainer!

Obviously you misunderstand the issue.

It will make LA Galaxy a sh*tload. The interest it will create both in the game and their team will be huge and the opportunity for them to make a lot of money out of it (sponserships, merch, increased ticket sales etc..) I think its a good move for the team and for Beckham. I love how people keep saying hes stupid - hes laughing at you all (all the way to the bank!)
