Okay, so I got my turbo fixed on the Audi A4 B5 1.9 TDI and now it goes like stinky (yay, the pipes had all disintegrated)

The garage I went to however advised me that the very noisy engine (which it definitely is) is probably in need of a top end rebuild. They were a bit vague on the details of this, I heard mention of cams and things...

Can someone layman it down for me what that means, what is likely to be involved, what the costs could be?

And most of all, is it something I can ignore and hope it goes away? :D

Cheers

knighty

did they talk about a price ?  might give some idea of what they planned to do....

it wont go away... but if I were you Id just ignore it... it probably wouldnt be worth the cost anyway :o

Chris

How old is the car?

Id agree with Knighty, if you ignore it it will either get worse or stay the same, and most likely it would just stay the same lol.  If it does get worse, deal with it then and not before.

DEViANCE

i would imagine it would involve stripping the heads down, skimming and cleaning that up, replacing all the cam followers and refitting the camshafts with new bearings.

A complete waste of money on an old car, would probably cost more than the car is worth.

Just live with the noisey engine, an oil flush and good fresh oil would probably help or find a good low milage cylinder head/engine on ebay.

Thanks guys, Ill ignore it unless it gets significantly worse :)

I need new front pads and rear springs far more pressingly sadly.

You could just try to find a head from a decent engine in the yellow classifieds and get it skimmed, i hope it still works like that :P

Thats at least the sort of sh*t i used to do with my Cavys

No way Im touching brakes and springs, I stop at the safe level of changing the air filter.

knighty

pah, piece of cake !

email me when you get a quote from a garage and Ill price up the parts... itll be worth the drive up here for the difference.... wont take long to do, and then we can make a weekend of it, see if we get thrown out of any more nightclubs by racist bouncers !!! ;)

LMAO okay that sounds like a plan. If Im lucky I could get up there and back on 1 tank!

knighty

pah.... pity it wont run on veg oil... i could have filled your boot with 5gal cans !

The ones that dont leak hopefully lol

knighty

whats the fun in that, the more they leak the faster you have to drive !
