anyone had an experience doing the c1 license? im thinking of getting a provisional and doing the training for it
if anyone could recommend good training schools as well thatd be great

knighty

which one is C1 ?

Im just getting mine (i think) (class 2 right ? 18tonnes?)

I was only going to try got 7.5ton but it costs the same for both, and its the same test, so might as well go for the class 2 18 tonner one :)

Im too young so passed my test in 99 so can only drive up to 3.5ton... already bought the 6.5tonner so need to pass my test now !

you need a medical before you can get your provisonal for it (done that)
passed my theroy test ages ago
then had to wait AGES for my liscence to come back after i got some points :(
has my "assesment" the other day (a hour and a half drive to see how good I am)
going to start learning on 12th jan, and my test is booked for the 18th :)

Edd

C1 is over 3.5 and up to 7.5

i just wanna learn C1 atm cant be arsed with trailers

knighty

mmm, for my class2 (18ton) Im paying the same as I would for learning to dribe 7.5 ton, the lorry Im in is the size of a medium sizes 7.5tonner, and I don;t have to do anything with tralors.... I think...

Ill ask one of my brothers, two of them have class 2, and one has class 1

Cypher

Look towards your local industrial estates for driver training companies.  Those who specialise in fork lift & goods vehicle training.

I know a friend of mine recently looked at a training course for C1 license iirc, it was something like Ã,£800 for the course and test.

Beaker

You have to have test now for upto 7.5Tonne?!

Cypher

Yes, they are no longer freebies as it were.

Beaker

heh, i can see the point, but i wouldnt be without mine!

knighty

^^^

yep, anyone who passed after june 1998 is only alowed up to 3.5ton :(

I wasnt even old enough to learn then :(

and yeah, not sure how much mine will be, it depends on how many days training you need... but 800 souinds about right :(

Edd

f**k that then
its just like driving a larger van how can they charge Ã,£800 for it

knighty

even worse than that...

there changing the law so 3.5ton vans need tackographs, are govend to a max speed of 56mph and arnt alowed in the 3ed lane of the motorway !

its still a year or so away at the moment... but its comeing :(

Edd

some of these 3.5 tonners have more power than some cars on the road, the sprinter, the VW transporter and that new merc van too!

They are all extremelly quick and reliable all of them..

Ive being thinking of going in for my Advanced Drivers sometime in the next year before Uni. Tho would try and do it in my Dads car for the mod cons :)

You getting some big vans/lorrys in at work Alan?

knighty

yeah, I took one of the vans over a weigh bridge down the street from work when I had it fully loaded... didnt realise quite how much weight I was putting in it so decided I needed something bigger quick !

already bought a six and a half tonner, just theres only one guy who can drive it, and I dont want him driving it because hes such a bad driver :(

Indeed.  I drove a Sprinter 311CDI Chasis Cab Sprintshift not so long ago.  Never drove anything of its size before.  I found it much easier than I thought it would be.  So easy to drive and I was amazed with how it picked up.
