I have to say I thought team GB was going to do awful at the olympics and only get a handful of medals.  Mainly because most of the preamble was our athletes were mainly going for the experience but they were aiming for London... Obviously not.
Having said that, are our expectations going to be too high now for London and if we do as well as this Olympics will it be seen as a major disappointment?  One problem London will have is that it cannot spend anywhere near as much as China could plow into the Olympics...  it will be a firecracker in a grit box in comparison...

I do not think it will be  bad in London, There are a lot of injured that could not even make it this time around and the folk doing well are not old timers like in the past so easily have another Olympics in them.

If Team GB keep up the good work in the areas they have done well in and work on the track and field for London then I can see them doing well.

well probably spend more than they did.... only we wont get as much for our money.... things start getting a lot more expensive when you cant just nock peoples houses down when theyre not in and build something else there....

also... chinease "workers" are paid ~5p/hour and work 12hours a day 7 days a week :o
(they hot swap beds, one gets out another gets in)

(this is from a chinease guy i know, not the media etc...)

There are 2 big differences between China and London that you have to realise to put things into perspective.  Anything the Chinese goverment wanted to do, they could do.  There are no debates, public consultations, cost reviews, planning meetins.  They want it it, happens.  Anything that is built, such as their new national stadium is there to stay.

London if they are smart enough, wont even try to compete on scale.  Everything that is done in London will have to have a lasting legacy for local communities.  The stadium will be brought down to 15-20 thousand people for a running track, or entertainment venue or soemthing.  You cant just have 2 90000 seater stadiums in london doing nothing.   Sport and factilites back into the community.

That will be Londons legacy.  My only hope for london that it actually kick starts peoples mentatilites and does some kind of u turn on what is turning into a fat nation.
