Cant believe im asking you clueless lot about cars :P jk

if i have about Ã,£7k to spend what would you suggest, im not overly happy with the ZS.

Couple of requirements:
Diesel
reliable
well built*
decent size - dont mind hatch backs but not to small. ZS size is perfect.
not to boring

*only place the zs fails

test drove a Rover 75 yesterday and it was beautiful, but i dont fancy the image though. VW bora looks ok but the interior is dreadfull.

all help appreciated

thanks

Diesel
Reliable / Well Built
Not Boring
Good Interior

= Audi A3 1.9 TDI (PD) 130BHP.... best hatchback interior, and youll be able to easily find one with loads of extras. 2002-2003 model maybe?

Pete

bmw 3series, you could get a lovely one for that money.

Sup with the ZS?
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Audi A3/A4 sounds good ill look into that, they generaly have pretty black/plain interiors tho.

BM3 series isnt a bad idea but probably couldnt afford if somthing went wrong and i am not a fan of bmw.

the zs is fine really but with the lack of warrenty it is frustrating having no where to go and moan about the couple of knocks and rattles that have appeard in the dash, and the rear, and they wind me up so much.

Pete

Theyre standard Rover features, nothing a dab of superglue or a discreet wedge of cardboard cant fix :)

At least have a sit in a beamer.

If you want not boring why not at least consider petrol cos unless youre doing silly mileage its not gonna be a huge dent in your piggie bank and youd have loads more interesting options. Diesels (imio) are still mainly about eco-commute-oboxes, petrol might get you more cool and fun and style.

Works for me... :D  With the bigger wheels and tyres, its certainly not boring either. Ive put 140k on the newer Mondeo style now (in 2 cars), the only thing that might be regarded as getting worn out would be the dampers; you need an E-class to avoid that sort of thing. With the turbo-diesel in this thing you get as much torque as an Integrale, you can floor the throttle well before the apex and it drags you round - its a great A road driver.

Jaimz

Old-shape Focus TDCi Sport! Not much will be as fun to drive, especially in the twisties!!! Came with 17" 7 spoke wheels as standard (to seperate them from the non-sport diesels).

DEViANCE

just got a ins quote for a 320s SE and it was Ã,£400 more than the ZS so forget that.

the fords are great value and well put together but they are way way to common for my liking.

Edd

couple of suggestions
older focus or mondeo TDCI
peugeot 206/307 HDi 110bhp
VW Bora/Golf/A3/A4 etc
renault DCIs
the vauxhall CDTis are good engines too, they didnt start til 04 tho so will be pricey

Beaker

Old style Toledo V5.  Same engine as the VW V5, basically a more interesting and feels better when you are in it.

if you specifically want Deisel then the 130bhp PD engine comes in that model as well.  I think they might have done the 150bhp, but not 100% sure.

lol, yeah. tbh tho it is only a few parts of the interior that arnt well built.

the centre consol rattles and the rear doors clunk when you stop/pull off. nothing major and are fixable with abit of investigation but its not like its a cheap car, it just shouldnt do it imo.

main reason is i fancy more relaxed ride, the zs has turned me into abit of a wanker driver with its handling.
