Hi all, someone has offered me Ã,£1200 for the Corsa so Ive decided to get rid before I spend yet more money fixing broken bits and want something else relatively cheap so I can run this insurance policy out.

I was thinking something like:

Pug 106 1.1 or 1.4, preferably newer shape
Saxo 1.1 or 1.4
Renault Clio 1.4 RT (not interested in any others).

Im swaying towards the Clio now for around Ã,£750 and get as bog standard and tidy as possible with no problems as I dont wanna spend any more money on sh*t old cars lol.

What do people think? Any other recommendations? Has to be group 5 or less insurance you see so my policy doesnt go up any.

Are Clios depandable and reliable? I like this one on ebay:

Shame its an Auto, but otherwise a manual one like that would be ideal

I wouldnt.  They are plain horrible.  The old corsas were the best, the engine units are fantastic.

Yes I would go with a Clio.  I know a couple of people who have had them in the past, one of them liked hers so much and had no problems at all that she ended up buying the Clio 01-06 model since it came down in price.  

It think you should go for model before I think that are good, 94-01 ish.

I used to drive a J reg 1.4 RT. Liked it a lot.

Only bad experience, once the clutch and brakes did decide to go at the same time, although the car had done 85k miles and that was over 7 years ago!

Cheers guys, forgot to mention I only wanna spend about 750 on the car, as I fancy a spotless Escort RS Turbo in around November time So this is just to replace the Corsa so I can run out my insurance and get some NCB.

I keep coming back to Corsas but Ive spent so much on mine its put me off em yet theyre still one of the most solid and reliable ickle cars. Grr!

Definitely swaying to a Clio though, I just need to know if theyre tougher and more reliable than 106s and Saxos lol

Simple answer would be No.  Get the 106 if you have your heart set on a small French car.  If you just want something cheap and cheerful to last you fro 6 months get a Fiesta, hundreds areound and you can be bloody fussy with them.

Corsa blocks are piss easy to work on will give them that much! Dont think they are amazing on power tho....

Pug 106 just a basic 1.1 is fun and reliable... Just dont put weight on the rear axle

For that amount you can get a *really* god one.

If you want somthing bigger but still cheap on insurance: Volvo 440Li (L platers) 1.6 Manual. Quite a big saloon and they are nice looking cars too

As Poision said, they are so simple, pretty much bomb proof.  Tend to be very reliable.  

As a friend found out, ragged the s**t out of an old 1.4 8V, it was absouletely fine after 16 months .  He went on to a newer 1.2 16V corsa with the newer lump.  It didnt sound right after 9 months, it also had electrical problems, engine management had a fit.

The current model is such a horribly bland car.  Vauxhalls are just not built as they used to be imo.  Then there is that fly by wire c**p.

BTW driven all the cars listed above and the Ka is the best!

If you dont fancy men you cant drive a Ka; its just not the order of things.

lol I aint having a Ka The Corsa I have now is alright but Ive been offered 1200 and its got some bodywork issues, main one being cracked B-pillars.. expensive to fix lol so it can go (SEE HERE). Fair play though you can nail the engine 24/7 and it doesnt complain - best bit about the car. Shame its only about 65 BHP with mods lol.

Ill have a look at some polos too, are the 1.4s any good? Seat Ibizas also but not many about under a grand which are owt special
