I cleaned my racer yesturday, and got the bug... I just had to clean the MTB.

Now, the MTB is unlucky because its not a very special toy like the Racer is... so it doesnt generally get looked after.

Its been sat in the garage caked in crud and crap from the last ride I did with it, so thats probably... 3 or 4 months worth.  oooops.

Oh well, its clean now... I dont think that toothbrush will ever be the same again...

and every picture I took today was out of focus.. damn thats good LOL   aw well....

it NEEDS a new chain ASAP and the cogs are starting to rust but theyll do Im sure. Theres also the odd spot of rust on the suspension forks too, small enough to really not worry about tbh not even worthy of being called surface-rust.  Its done quite well really, considering how I dont look after it.....  itll see me through winter, Im sure... :D

Binary Shadow

was about to mention the flat :D lol

You have to deflate the rear to get it past the brakes, even when you un-link them for wheel removal stuff..!  :(

Got about 45 PSI in it now :D

Suffice to say they SUCK on tarmac...

Serious

I find mine adequate on tarmac and light off road stuff but I havent tried it on anything heavier...

Yours looks a lot better without the mudcake ;)

aye... I dont think snellgrove is saying "youll not be able to ride on tarmac with the tires" I think what he means to say is "they are crap for riding on tarmac" :)

You have tread creep basically wasting most of your energy. MTB Slicks or semi-slicks are required for decent speeds on MTBs on the road.

MTBs are great! and theyll get you from a to b but for the sake of Ã,£20 you can buy some MTB slicks and fit them and go lots faster between a and b :)

Advantage however... youll stop faster in crap weather :D and youll slide less if its peeing it down with rain :D

Pah!  My scRibble stops on a dime in the pissing rain.  And I still roll on slick 23s  8)

Tread on a street tire is unnecessary. The pavement itself is rough enough so slicks are all thats needed. This only applies to high pressure bike slicks. Ive ridden 1.5" slicks on a converted mtb in the rain with perfect grip, and Ive had plenty of knobbies give way on tarmac in the rain. Knobbies are for dirt. Period.

I like WTB Slickasaurus tires for converting mtb to street, theyre fast as snot due to the slick tread and high thread count and also cush as theyre large volume.

Indeed, M3ta.. they work fine just a LOT of effort :( they drag a lot. I have a set of Ã,£10-each halfrauds slicks for the MTB. totally transform the thing... :D

I also agree that slicks are fine in the wet..  whole lot of fuss about nothing.. I used to think they were scary, until I had a go.. no problems at all... yet  I dont corner that hard though, but in straight lines they are just fine.

The racers horse-shoes Cant haul up like Vs though..  cant beat an MTB for ultimate stopping power, I bet a good Disc setup would be awsome fun.

says who?

Ok, mountain bikes have a smaller wheel diameter, but my Campag Veloce brakes could easily put me over the handlebars and even with my experience of riding road and mountain bikes, i often find myself lifting the back end up on my road bike with these brakes... Id honestly say the Veloce arent far behind my Hope Hydros interms of power/control, theyre awesome.

Ill second that.  Fair enough my Mirages are a step down on the campag ladder, but Im pretty sure the mechanicals of the calliper are identical.  And the limiting factor on the braking is well I hold on to the bike and keep the back wheel down :D  Thrashes the pants off the disc/V-brake on my MTB thats for sure.

...heres a pic of the bike in question, plus "Special guest" :D
