Anyone got much experience with one of these?

Ive been offered an 07 plate one if Im willing to wait a couple of months.  Its got 96k on the clock, but its all Motorway and the car is mint other than the high miles.  Ive been driving it for a few days because its been lent to me by my sister, and shes been told they may have to buy it at the end of the lease period.  Im looking to replace the w-reg Vectra for something a little newer.  Basically its a lease car, and they are already ~25k over the agreed miliage, so them buying it, and me buying it from them would as I understand it work out better for my sis as shed lost less money!  As it stands if they dont buy it theyll have paid more than just buying it outright!

Serious

Havent got any experience of PUGs. Generally, providing it drives OK, you know the drivers so go ahead.

I was wondering if anyone had a 307, or had a car with the 1.6 HDi in it.  Ive no experience outside of hire cars with the HDi series engines, and wondered if anyone had a personal view of owning one.  I kind of know some of the cars drivers, but its been a company car!  Sister just upgraded her 307 to a 308 2.0HDi, and thats rather nice!

my mother has a 307, but Im pretty sure its a 1.4hdi ?

you sure your sisters is a 1.6 and not a 1.4 ?   its odd theyd make 2 different engines so closely matched...

(Im pretty sure my mothers is a 1.4.... but i could be wrong)

nice car to drive, no real problems with it (done about 50k miles now on an 06 iirc)... needed a new egr valve a while back but thats all its needed so far....

yeah, they do the 70bhp 1.4HDi, then a 90 and 110 1.6HDi.  The one im looking at is the 110, which fits my "rule" of nothing under 100bhp ever again!

knighty

wow, Im suprised my mothers is so nippy for 70bhp !

its a bit gutless on the motorway, but pretty good up to 50mph

110 should be pretty dun :-)

decent enough engines, occasionally give injector trouble.

So nothing major then.  Thats what?  30 minute job if youve not done one before?  They have to be more durable than the B-Series Diesel I used to work on all the time.  I was sad to see the 1.9 XUD be phased out, but it was probably due!

Edd

the 1.6 HDi is decent enough I think. 1.6 16v diesel with an intercooler, so there is potential for more power. i had a 307 5 door hatch for about a month as a hire car. The driving position was higher than my 206 and was generally a better car than my 206 and would have gladly swapped

Im not sure I would buy one though, I think there are better cars out there for the same money

I was thinking along those lines, but itll be CHEAP because its so high miliage.  No great shakes to me as I know its got a full service history at the main dealer (Who in this case I actually trust as I know the workshop manager).

It has a few "Problems".
1 :: Theyve not got a scooby where the 2 back seats are.  It seems one of the ex-reps has taken them out, and they dont know where they are.  Non-issue to me, Id never carry 7 people in anyway!
2 :: parking rubs on all 4 corners, only rather light though so one of the spot-spray companies should be able to sort that.
3 :: Needs a new CD player as its died.
4 :: likely to be at 115k or so before I do get my hands on it.

i dont get this high milage but all motorway excuse...
I know how I drive & my cars on motorways get hammered..
foot to the floor in low gears to get to high gears to cut people up
& force people outta my way

motorway isnt knocking it off the redline all the time, and judging by the onboard computers information its averaged 47MPG since it was new Im guessing its not been driven like a dick.

Ive owned 2 307s a 2 litre petrol and a Diesel and both have been complete sh*te, im also told that many of the new ones including mine do suffer from Headgaskets issues.
