I know its a total shot in the dark - but just in case - There is an Alfa 156 2.4 JTD 20v there that I am looking more info from the dealer who are being slow at getting back to me - wondered if anyone was passing could they peek over the fence and see what colour it is and if it has leather or not !
I could take a de-toor past there on friday if you like ?
(its not far out my way)
:)
edit: *might* be able to fit it in tomorrow.... will see what I can do ;)
That would be awesome
If its any good (As in - if it actually has a leather interior and is black) Ill fire them a deposit and get it next week
no probs, Ive added the info into my mobile so I don;t forget it !
I was up that way the other day as well..
If it has leather interior, Im putting a deposit down on it
I couldent go today... but Ill defenatly go tomorrow :-)
I was tempted to wind you up a bit and sat I saw it, loved it and have bought it... but decided thats too much of a dick thing to do :o
went today.... didnt actually realise which garage it was (satnaved it)... I drive past it 8 or 9 times a week :o
bad news tho... no lether :(
its black, looks nice, 43 or 49k on the clock (cant remember whihc) air con etc...
its had the speedo changed twice tho... apparently a common problem with them ? main dealer done and stamped in the book etc.. tho :)
do you like leather that much ? Im never really fussed about it...
The leather interior really makes them imo
Cheers for going and having a look :)
I was hoping for black with red leather - will have to keep looking !!
no probs :)
and.... keep your eye out for a long wheel base high top 05/06ish transit fridge van with low miles while youre on ;)
7.5 ton lorries too big ?
Theres a lot of class 2 stuff doing the rounds cheap as well for some reason ATM
yeah, Ive got one already for picking stuff up...the test every 8 weeks is a pita :( .... just need a new van for doing local deliveries in...
do you know much about sprinters ? I always prefered transits because I grew up with them, im pretty sure i could strip and re-build one with my eyes closed... tho I guess the new breed of transits are just like all the rest now, too crampt and too many electronics you cant trace without specialist gear...
I cant find much info out about other vans... I dont care what theyre like to drive (I wont be driving it much) I want to know about rust and what theyre like to work on :o
Have had a couple of sprinters. Theyre actually pretty good fun to drive - relatively quick for a van
had a 416CDi for a bit and it was better than any transit, by a long shot
Wasnt it the first generation of sprinters that were so fast for vans the brakes werent actually powerful enough to apply meaningful stopping power at the high-end?
we have both sprinters ( new and old shape) and transits at work and we are moving from transits, on an old shape hire sprinter from TLS we but 180,000 miles on it from new, and it only needed service items and one lot of brakes, we on the same amount of miles two of the transits had drivechains snap taking the engine with it.
a 53plate van from new has had new engine, 4-5 new shocks, gears, abs system, gearbox, clutch, all the pulleys and tensioners replaces twice ( one was Dunstons Jennings fault) and lots of minor silly thing that keep them off the road for a few hours.
Transits have a nicer sitting position that the old sprinters, but the new shape are about the same, sadly new shape sprinters dont seem as bomb proof as the older shape.
Whatever you do steer well clear of LDV sh*te! Our Students Guild at Aston has several LDV minibuses and they are all absolutely horrific to drive. Brakes? What brakes?! Even the new (57-plate) Maxus is utter crap, though considerably better than the Convoys.
Jaimz
lol i know all about how bad LDVs are !
go back 10 or 15 years and theyd have rust holes in them at one year old !

I thought they came out of the factory ready-rusted :\
oh yea i drove a couple of pilots and they were a complete bag of nails even being only 1-2 years old
old LDVs are terrible, dont understand why so many got sold, Ive heard good things about the new Maxus tho.

Well the one weve got at uni blew its turbo at 7000 miles... plus its limited at 62 which is just where the turbo spools up so it keeps kicking the turbo in and out (which i think it what killed it). Its a step up from the Convoy for shizzle but not a patch on the equivalent Transit / Sprinter / Master.

i honestly dont know why firms keep buying the POS
we dont use them but our Milton Keynes depot was offered a BOGOF on LDVs just before the maxus came out, its deals like that that tempt companies to buy em, that and the buyer never normally drives them
