Following on from the TEAM TEKHEADS post ages ago

http://www.xcracer.com/nightrider12/

i shall be racing...

EDIT:

If you are interested in doing this event in a four man team (me + another guy possibly will be doing this) can you PM or leave your name below?

Its not going to be the easiest event in the world, with four its going to be three hour rides for each racer (well three hours max - how we would do this would be up to the team on the night) - it could be technical, so if youve never ridden off road - thats off road, NOT canal paths, it may not be the one for you.

If you are brave enough to have a crack, for this or any other enduro event you will need

* Helmet - mandatory
* Gloves
* Eye protection (persimmon AND clear lenses)
* Lights - not the flashing LED type but high powered ones - you dont want to be rattling through woods and the like at 2am with a few LEDS lighting the way - its both dangerous and inconvenient.
* A bike which will last up to 3 or 4 hours hard bashing - bikes will be subject to checks on the day, possibly by the marshals and we certainly dont want anyone trudging back to the pits with wheels like tachos.
* Guts.

to be honest the rule in mountain biking is 1hr road = 30mins off road.

so in terms of output its equivalent to 6hrs on the road.

but there is a river crossing at the halfway point, which could make it interesting.

Ive got my eye on a red sea to dead sea bike ride later this year!

Can you still feel your hands? :lol: 2-3 hours used to be my maximum on a rigid till the numbness got me. :P

Go to the site at 4pm.

Surrounded by men and ladies on Specialized, Santa Cruz, Rocky Mountain and Trek Full Suspension bikes (costing 5 times as much as mine in some cases), who greeted my single speed, fully rigid bike with looks of astonishment... :D

Unpacked, put my tent up and assured the naysayers that despite my peculiar choice of kit, i was ready for my solo ride of 12hrs....

i had several problems in the early laps, with the lighting being one of them - a loose battery pack meant i had to go back to the car and secure it, plus the drive train made some disconcerting noises and proved problematic on the hills (with me having to resort to cyclo cross tactics, of jumping off and carrying the thing!) but despite this, i monstered the singletrack and descents - the 29" wheel configuration was astonishingly good and this was highlighted by me making up masses of time on these sections, despite me loosing lots on the ascents... often overtaking men and women who were on full suspension bikes...

i stopped about 3 times over the 12 hours, but was cheered on my everyone on the spectator area, when they realised i was the only nutter doing it the hardway on my singlespeed rattler...

i eventually completed 10 laps, with an average speed of around 9MPH, with a maximum speed of 28MPH!

(oh yeah, i also went through both front and back brake pads (both were new sets, too!)

utterly stoked and i reckon if i actually prepare myself and get the bike setup up perfect, a top 5 or 10 is attainable...
