Ive had my bike for about 3 months now.  Used it on a handful of occasions until this week.

Cycled in on Tuesday, Wednesday and Today.  6 miles each way, takes just over 20 minutes each way.  Not bad considering it takes me the best part of 20 minutes in my car also, 15 minutes if traffic is really clear and Im lucky with the lights.

How long before I get knocked off though?  Anyone who knocks me off is going to have to be prepared for some serious consequences!

i once rode a bike to work.
10 miles & mostly uphill.
got lost coming back after deciding on an alternative root.
called in sick the next day, I couldnt sit for a week.

Due to my universities attempts to make up for its failiures by promoting "green-ness", lack of parking meant I could choose to get 2 buses taking an hour or so, drive for 10 mins and walk for 10 more, or cycle.

To start with I went and cycled.

This lasted about a week until I nearly hit a pedestrian. There are sod all cycle routes even remotely between me and the uni, and this particular stretch was dual carriageway, so I was on the pavement, as it was safer all round.

After that Ive driven and walked. Id cycle again if the council or govt actually sorted out the cycle routes more, but until then its just not viable or safe, especially in places like Bournemouth, where its not so urban as to have lots of cyclists and provisions for them, yet not so rural as to have a sensible number of cars. Driving is so shocking here, and the sense of the cyclists is on par with the drivers it seems :(

Ive decided to do much the same - but going to avoid it on my current bike (17kg hybrid) and have ordered a cyclescheme voucher (the govmt.s tax-free cycle 2 work thingy, saves tonnes) in order to buy myself THIS. Excited much?!

BTW hi again all, Ive been a very occasional lurker for ages...

E2A: The route will be all roads, 8.2 miles, up and down big hills, yay for a challenge!

Ive started cycling again as im a fat bastard :D

Done the route 3 times now - once as a test and twice as proper commutes - all that has stopped me doing more is all this chuffing snow!

Theres more coming down as we speak - Id like to get another ride in on Weds, but thats snow/ice depending.

Cycled just over 50 miles in the last 8 days :D

I wasnt aware of that cyclescheme thingy.  I remember seeing signs for it on my walks.  60 mile journey for work is a sticking block...
