ERU

Ok i used to run a bit a few years ago but nothing serious. A few 10ks and a marathon.

Now that i am single again ive just started to get back into it and intend to continue this time. Im aiming to eventually get into cross country and enter a Karrimor KIMM one day soon. Here i be in action:

Not sure if anyone runs here but if you do, what do you eat before a race and what kind of running do you do the day before? If any? Ive read all the books, so i am fully aware of what you are suposed to do but im looking at real life here :)
I havent ran for 3 days now, went out on the beer last night (i really tried not to!) and am thinking bread and chocolate before the race starts. I might get a few miles in this evening but am not sure if its a good thing for my kidneys although im not hung over now.

I got another run tomorrow in the Coventry memorial park that i hope to do a bit better in, providing i can cope with the heat and slowly start well.

Running can damage you knee and hip joints so it isnt reccommended for peeps with arthritis like me, Cycling or swimming is preferable IMHO

It helps up your cardio wrkout but it doesnt guarantee you wont have a heart attack.

Personally I would suggest weightlifting and a bike ;)

Sam and a few of the other blokes run so they should be allong shortly, as for eating bananas are always good for sports food :)

Drink plenty of water too - preferably with dehydration salts in. I wouldnt reccommend chocolate, too much fat. You want sugar, other carbohydrates and protein, not fat.

Running is great if youre lean enough and have good form. I used to do it when I was 150# vs. my current more muscular 180--when youre lighter you can just find a groove and float along. You look to be on the lanky end of things so all is good. Its a nice cheap sport as well.

As to what to eat before running: nothing. Eat hours before you go for a long run. Eat something that agrees with you and include some starch. Its that simple. Avoid strong chilis unless you like buttstew in your shorts.
