Quote from: Samhow often should a timing belt be replaced? My car has done 50K.
Cost of not doing it on some (average) cars: Ã,£1500+

Youll know when you get "the big silence!" Happened to me in 94 in an old Ford Orion.  I had to get all sorts of stuff done and the engine de-coked.  :( Something tells me itll be a damn sight more expensive on a 16v. injection engine.

QuoteAt the minimum its going to be Ã,£400 ish for a check and belt change, max 3k up.

If its just valves, replacement, head skim, gaskets, bolts and belt change may cost Ã,£1500 ish

QuoteMine cost Ã,£1200 for a top end rebuild

Its not a question of if but when...

A lot of engines are designed in such a way that if the belt snaps the valves dont end up smashing into the pistons. A lot of engines arent tho, even new ones.

I gotta get mine done in 500km, I think its around Ã,£160 +vat or Ã,£350 for the full 90kkm service.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.
