Why is my car faster, smoother, seemingly more economical and happier to get the back end out since having the starter motor changed?

Walrusbonzo

A new engine was fitted by accident?

DEViANCE

sounds odd.
Im not 100% on how they work but could it be that the old one was permanently engaged causing resistance against the engine.

soopahfly

Thats kinda what I thought, but Im not sure how they work.

Isnt there a starter solenoid that pulls a mechanical connection to the crank from the starter; so if jammed on, but ignition circuit not engaged, then the starter acts a generator. You might get some magnetic resistance?

knighty

is the starter motor was jammed on all the time, youd have been able to hear it....

all i can think of is, maybe the garage noticed something else while they were working on it and sorted it too ? loose vacuum hose etc... ?

that or its just the placebo effect of spending money on it ! :p

soopahfly

Its not just me who noticed.  I didnt say anything about having any work done and he says "Have you made your car faster"

Cypher

You cleared the gank out with a good run?

soopahfly

Every run is a "good run" with me behind the wheel.

Mark

The reason is - you havent driven it for a while.
