Yep, they'll find a way to put a spin on it 'ever increasing costs' or 'economic situation' = mega fleece.

Mark

sounds like an excuse to raise insurance funds lost in the sub-prime 'crisis'

fixed it for ya ;)

I think what concerns me most about this is the implication by the EU court that the result of a statistical analysis can constitute discrimination which should be outlawed.

The insurance companies don't charge women less because they feel like it or because they hate men, they do it because statistically they pay out less on policies held by women (why that might be is irrelavent), exactly the same as all the other seemingly random things which influence your premium. Whether or not you have a credit card has no direct influence on how good a driver you are, but some insurance companies will give you a reduction for having one.

One of two things will happen now,

either, as suggested above, premiums will just go up for women more than men this year and we'll ALL pay more for our insurance, or
the likes of Sheela's Wheels will start limiting themselves to cars which are more popular with women, say pink ford KAs. It wont be as efficient since there will be nothing to stop anyone who wants to driving a car which is inherantly girly to knock a few quid off their premium, but it will probably work well enough to maintain their basic model. Also in this scenario respray shops clean up as a subset of the country periodically has their car re-painted to the colour currently considered girliest.

edit: fixed my mathematics

it's all PC BS anyway....  the EU should be told to shove it on this one....

(and I'm not one of the bnp morons who's answer to everything is tell the EU to shove it)

Surely exactly the same logic applies to age as well, ageism is no different to sexism, the logical next stage of this is that insurance companies wont be able to charge more for young / old drivers. So a 17yo new driver will be charged the same as a 35 yo new driver. Statistics are no longer an excuse for discrimination.

Insurance will have to be based solely on an individuals history, not on any statistical basis. Great for 17yo chav guys in sooped up novas but not so great for middle aged women who learn to drive in their nice little fiat 500.

Its not really about age, its about no claims & driving experience. Even people who pass their tests in the early 20's still get stupid high insurance quotes.

that's an incredibly simplistic viewpoint, within the subset of people with no driving experience I'll bet pounds to pennys the 25 year old learner is a better risk than the 17yo. Certain insurance companies wont even consider insuring you until you're over 25, some it's even 30.

There are 100 reasons you might get a high insurance quote, and none of them invalidates any of the others.

I'd agree the 25 year old is a lower risk, as they are no longer there to ferry around their mates & show off how fast they can go around a corner/blind bend.
Even Pass Plus doesnt make that big a difference to insurance quotes. No claims discounts hammer down insurance prices though. I paid £360 this year..
As it was online, I done it without no claims to see the difference.. £900+ they wanted! I remember when my brother got his first 944 - £2k a year he was paying..
thats going back at least 15 years. Probably be double that now!

F**k all insurance companies!

Just got my renewal through, it's up to nearly £350, £70 more than last year. So I shop around for 5mins and everyone else wants nigh on £600.

F Me.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.
