Forgivness please :( :(
Im back, btw.
 :nana:
rofl! what engine?
2.0 turbo Diesel... Y reg.

same as mine, just de tuned. nice engine, bit noisy tho.
does it feel abit dead below 2k rpm?
aint driven it enough to notice yet, but all diesels are pathetic off boost lmao.
Whats the story with getting the BHP up to the later spec?
O... M... G...
was there no other car for sale anywhere else on the planet?

well it is a pretty tunable engine. if it feels crap below 2k it is probably the maf sensor being dead or wornout. try unplugging(temp, dont run the car proberly like this) it and see if it feels better. if it feels better then you can either get a mafam(pretty cheap) or replace it for a new one(not cheap).
the next step is usually upping the boost(free), a decat (£30), and an ITG panal filter (£30).
after that the car will feel transformed, much smoother and free reving. You will probably have gained 10-15 bhp from the above.
then the next step is a remap (£150), that can take you up to 145bhp and is where I am at, at the moment.
then major mods, are modified injectors(£250) and hybrid turbo (£300) to get you up to 190bhp plus. the injectors get you to 180, the turbo hasnt been RRd yet.
all the above is available on
www.mg-rover.org, ebay and
http://tuning-diesels.com/.
get some pics up, i really like the mk1 45s. what colour is it?

None that met my requirements so closely, no.
Im not after silly BHP, i dont want to lose the economy as I commute 60 miles a day lol. Its midnight blue, will try and get some decent pics up in a couple of days as Im busy over the weekend.

sounds good, well do the decat, mafam, up boost and the car will feel much better.
also check the intercooler pipes are in good condition, they can split as they get old and you can lose boost.
dunno if you have ever had a TD before but it is a good idea to let it idle for 30s before turning the engine off, esspecially after a spirited drive. lets the turbo get some fresh, cooler oil into before it stops.

Same applies to any turbo charged car tbh
But spirited doesnt apply to a rover....
Cool cars have systems that eliminate the need to do this (944 turbo, xantia activa), or turbo timers with remote start(My MR2 turbo).
pfft turbo timers break the law.. that is leaving a running car so totally pointless, a lot of insurance companies hate them from what i hear.
I have mine hidden under the steering column cover, and it deactivates when you let the handbrake off
I was actually thinking of getting myself an MG ZR... the 5 door version though, they do look quite funky, but not yet, I want to get a new car next year :)
I like the 45s tbh, I really like the high end 75s too, they look really nice to be inside them :)
youd need all the windows blacked out though, and also get in and out under cover of night. or get your grandfather to drive and pretend its his.
^^ rofl

the 75 is stunning car to drive, and to be in. Looks really classy imo too.
anyone that doesnt buy a car because someone thinks it is an old mans car is stupid.
my girlfriends dad dismissed my sugestion of a 75 when he was looking, now he has a brand new passat and is very disapointed.

I took a passat for a test drive once... It was rather boring, the elctronic hand brake button on the dash was impossible to get used to in the test drive. I rest my foot ever so gently on the clutch pedal too and in the passat the engine ticking over vibration travelled through the clutch pedal, tickling my foot.
I havnt even driven a 75 but I would have one over a new passat.
Although I wonder what a Octavia VRS would be like to... Or maybe a petrol passat

Ace, absolute rockets, great fun to drive and they handle well. Some people who are badge snobs will refuse to drive them however.

I think the VRS looks meaner than lots of other cars and thats what I like :)
Tis a pigs motor, all the undercover 5-0 round Brum are in VRS Octavias and ST220 Mondys
Jaimz

He can get hamster to shove some rockets in the back as in the Top Gear space shuttle. Its bound to add some kudos :D
Went for a long drive today and sure enough when low revs are used it was very sluggish... over 3K it pulled like a train but under that I may as well have gotten out and pushed lol.
However Im not convinced a MAF amplifier is a good solution. Surely sticking an amplifier on the MAF and turning up the gain until it "feels about right" isnt exactly a good plan, all that will end up doing is going the other way with the problem and over-fuelling the car?

Yeah, though to be honest the 2.0TD is plenty fast enough on its own. They look so sedate, but they take off like a scalded cat.

not really as if your maf is worn out then it is sending a weak signal, hence the lack of performance and fuel. using the mafam doesnt overfuel it just compensates for the lack of fuel, bringing it up to normal level.
obviously a new maf is the best option, but the bosch mafs tend to only last 20ish thou and then starts wearing out again. so a mafam, and/or a better quality, Pierbugh maf is a better long term option.
if you havent allready read through that diesel tuning site, then this is a good bit of info
http://tuning-diesels.com/Mafam/maproject.htm
Yes, but as the MAFAM is adjustable and its up to the user to set it, how does the user know how much the signal from their MAF has degraded by?
Without hooking it up to an oscilliscope or similar test equipment its surely just going to be guesswork to get it set up?
airflow meters - jesus do they still make those
Quote from: Markairflow meters - jesus do they still make those
most popular way of controlling fueling arnt they?
i know most diesel engines ive worked on have them, bmw, vw, ford, renault, volvo etc.
dont know about petrols.
anyway they are good when they are working, but a common cause of low down power loss
Theyre (Airflow meters) the older way to do things.
MAP sensors aid throttle response & are less restrictive as there isnt anything sitting in the way.

Give me the Rallye then, it will get garaged and rebuilt! Saying it needs some major money and TLC on it :p
