the 75 is stunning car to drive, and to be in. Looks really classy imo too.

anyone that doesnt buy a car because someone thinks it is an old mans car is stupid.

my girlfriends dad dismissed my sugestion of a 75 when he was looking, now he has a brand new passat and is very disapointed.

I took a passat for a test drive once... It was rather boring, the elctronic hand brake button on the dash was impossible to get used to in the test drive. I rest my foot ever so gently on the clutch pedal too and in the passat the engine ticking over vibration travelled through the clutch pedal, tickling my foot.

I havnt even driven a 75 but I would have one over a new passat.

Although I wonder what a Octavia VRS would be like to... Or maybe a petrol passat

Ace, absolute rockets, great fun to drive and they handle well.  Some people who are badge snobs will refuse to drive them however.

I think the VRS looks meaner than lots of other cars and thats what I like :)

Tis a pigs motor, all the undercover 5-0 round Brum are in VRS Octavias and ST220 Mondys

He can get hamster to shove some rockets in the back as in the Top Gear space shuttle. Its bound to add some kudos :D

Went for a long drive today and sure enough when low revs are used it was very sluggish... over 3K it pulled like a train but under that I may as well have gotten out and pushed lol.

However Im not convinced a MAF amplifier is a good solution.  Surely sticking an amplifier on the MAF and turning up the gain until it "feels about right" isnt exactly a good plan, all that will end up doing is going the other way with the problem and over-fuelling the car?

Yeah, though to be honest the 2.0TD is plenty fast enough on its own.  They look so sedate, but they take off like a scalded cat.

not really as if your maf is worn out then it is sending a weak signal, hence the lack of performance and fuel. using the mafam doesnt overfuel it just compensates for the lack of fuel, bringing it up to normal level.

obviously a new maf is the best option, but the bosch mafs tend to only last 20ish thou and then starts wearing out again. so a mafam, and/or a better quality, Pierbugh maf is a better long term option.

if you havent allready read through that diesel tuning site, then this is a good bit of info
http://tuning-diesels.com/Mafam/maproject.htm

Chris

Yes, but as the MAFAM is adjustable and its up to the user to set it, how does the user know how much the signal from their MAF has degraded by?

Without hooking it up to an oscilliscope or similar test equipment its surely just going to be guesswork to get it set up?

airflow meters - jesus do they still make those

most popular way of controlling fueling arnt they?

i know most diesel engines ive worked on have them, bmw, vw, ford, renault, volvo etc.

dont know about petrols.

anyway they are good when they are working, but a common cause of low down power loss

Mark

Theyre (Airflow meters) the older way to do things.

MAP sensors aid throttle response & are less restrictive as there isnt anything sitting in the way.
