One thing I should perhaps mention is the fact youll see maybe 12-15 mpg average from a liner - or most of the others (RX-7 especially)

Yeah, Ive kinda guessed all this, though didnt expect it to be as bad as 12-15. I was thinking more like mid 20s.

Get an A4 B5 Turbo :P Performance and economy :P

Find me some on Ebay or Autotrader, I have no idea what a B5 is ;-)

B5 is the Audi A4 from 95-01

Youll get 20 or so in a liner if you drive real easy and at about 50

It would appear insurance is going to make the Skyline an absolute no go for me :(

However, in case anyone else is interested.

1997 2.5 GTS Turbo with 28000 miles and no mods for only £3,750 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nissan-Skyline-28-000-MILES-ONLY-1997_W0QQitemZ290244763824QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290244763824&_trkparms=39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A7|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Seems like a bargain to me.

Aye the GTS-Ts are good value for money - theyre rear drive and have the smaller, just as durable engine.

2WD makes them a bit simpler - the Rs have pretty complicated 4WD (But its fairly reliable also)

was quite intersted in that then!
until

maybe not! not bad for 22 though, I paid £1200 for my first car which was a 1.3 Metro.

I think your best looking at FTOs, if you can find a manual their awesome but the triptronic autos are pretty good too. They have one of the nicest exhaust notes of any car.

Colours a bit sick but its a 1.8T Sport Only 75k to, and history, could spend 3-400 right off and chip this one :)

1.8T Quattro Sport

You could also get the newer model for around £4,500 on Autotrader. ( i prefer the earlier b5 model like above though)  Less at a good auction, plenty of decent auctions around if you go on the right day.

Also check out http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/ some nice cars on that site.

I can see insurance is going to be a problem here and end up playing my hand.

Just got quotes for FTO, was even more than the Skyline!

Ok, something is up with this compare the market site.  I just got quotes for non Turbo MR2s and its giving me quotes over double what I got from admiral nearly a year ago.

Walrusbonzo

Ok, sod price comparison sites.

With my current car, Toyota Corolla T3(1.6) Admiral gave me the cheapest price 2 years ago and even 1 year ago when I had to renew the insurance.

They consistently gave me cheaper quotes than price comparison sites.

Now its happening again.  Theyve quoted me for a Turbo Import MR2 LESS than www.comparethemarket.com give me on a non-turbo MR2!

Just knocked £1000~ from my previous best Skyline quote, still, not paying £1500!!!

YAY...  I can afford to insure a 300zx Twin Turbo and FTOs with Admiral.  FTO quotes were a 1/3 what some rubbish price comparison gave me.

Walrusbonzo

FTO or MR2 it is, getting quotes well under £1000 now from Admiral.

Mark

considering how desperately bog slow an FTO is I wouldnt bother - theyre so woefully underpowered its ridiculous

Bound to be somewhere you can get a decent insurance quote for - A mate of mine has a skyline GTR insured for under 1500 quid and he is 27.

Have you considered an Evo 5 upwards? (evo 4 has a weak engine)

A skyline R32 GTR would be the absolute best performing possible for your budget, but insurance will be dear.

Walrusbonzo

All Skyline GTS quotes Im getting now are around £1500.  GTRs are in the £2k+ range.  I set a £1000 insurance limit for myself, even that is steep.

Surely a FTO GPX with a 200bhp 2L V6 MIVEC engine cant be THAT slow, its still going to blow the pants off my Corolla! ;-)

Ive not really considered an Evo, not the style of car Im really looking for.  Ive ignored the Impreza for the same reasons.

DEViANCE

Ive test driven a MIVEC FTO and even with the semi-auto box it got to illegal speeds plenty quick enough.

Mark

take a drive in an evo, then see what you think :)
