bit quiet on here for bikes..... but there used to be plenty of bike geek posts....

I'm going to convert  bike to electric to get to work and back (with: kit high voltage controller 12 of these (two lots of six in series)

anyway... I've got a bike... and it's supposed to be a good one, it's a Carrera, light as a feather... and haven't been on it in years

but... I've read if I go fast on an electric bike I'll really need full suspension, and disk breaks... and I'll need to uprate the... thingie bits where the wheel axle joins to the bike - no idea what it's called, the C shaped bit

anyway.... since I don't want to spend a fortune on it incase I get bored after a week... are either of these any good ?

I just picked the cheap 2 out of this list...

happy to spend more if it's worth it.... even with a cheap bike I'll end up spending £1k so a bit extra on a better bike could be worth is

p.s. are those frames big enough for me at 6'4 ?

If it goes faster powered than 15mph iirc I think it's classed as a normal road vehicle, may want to check that.

Otherwise why bother converting a really nice lightweight bike to a heavy, slow, sh*t electric one? Just pedal more, or buy a cheap commuter 125.

knighty

yeah, if the motor pushes you faster than 15mph it's the same as a motorbike....

unless there's a sticker on the bike saying it was done before 1999 ;)

The £150 Apollo won't take your weight.  It's a kids bike.
The paradox should be OK, but there's no need to have a full sus for what you're doing.

even if I go fast ?

I'm happy to spend more for a better bike.... or does it not make much difference till you get to the really expensive ones ?  they all look the same to me :-(

I've been 40mph on a crappy sub £200 rigid.  You don't need full sus.  Look at the Harley Hard tails.
Get a reasonable hardtail (£200) and that will do you.  Or pick up something second hand.  A cheap full sus is designed to be disposable, so you can't get bearings and the like.
