The fix:

Ordered yesterday lunchtime, came this moring. The pipes are quite big :D Ill get a bigger pic later, its really nice looking. Gotta cut a huge lump out the bumper to fit it tho.

This.. It dont look nothing like £70 worth of bits; but its essential for a good worn-exhaust repair.

Got some genuine mazda touch up paint.

mx5parts are awesome.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Ive looked at those exhausts before, very nice. I never fancied cutting into the bumper though...

I could spend a small fortune on MX5parts.co.uk, Ive easily spent over £600 so far I think.

That K&N fits in place of the existing air filter yeah?

Pete

The induction kit came with 2 pages of instructions. The airbox comes out and the cone goes on the end of the intake. The tube bit is a cold airt intake - Im not massively impressed - one end points at the filter and the other goes under the front bumper. Next time Ill go for the replacement k&n panel; this thing doesnt look worth the extra effort.

The bumper doesnt look too bad to cut, the template lines up with a clear reference point so as long as I masking tape it all up I reckon I can do it was a hacksaw and some sand paper and not feck the paint up. The exhaust itself is gorgeous, only thing is the welds arent buffed up, but youre not gonna notice tbh.

I figured they wernt up to much extra, Ive already got the panel filter.

Pics on completion?  :D

Hole? Try this...

Decided to go for SS Mongoose system, as was gonna set me back £100 for rear bumper, bout £80 for a spray and £150 for standard Ford exhaust.

Looks out of place at the minute, but plan is to sort it all when I switch insurers to a more mod friendly one at the end of this month.

Oh yeah, and the exhaust is silent. At my request.

Its a lot chavvy, certainly chavvyier than I wanted to be. But it was the most cost effective option. Other than adding a bumper and a stainless exhaust.

Though knowing its exact name, isnt exactly kosher.

I like it, those lights are a bit bleh tho.

I put the filter on, half hour job but Im leaving the pipe off - itd look messy and theres hardly room for it. Edit: It sounds pretty good, deep and growly but not overly loud.

I really dont like chrome exhausts.  Whats the point in having somthing with a nice finish and then stuffing it under your car where no one can see it and all the crap off the road can fly up and scratch it.

Binary Shadow

wheres the chrome?? its stainless.. will last a lot longer than your usual mild steel one

Chuck Norris

the chrome is in the stainless.  Besides, I would rather have a well galvanised steel exhaust than a cheap 409 grade stainless that just looks pretty.

Pete

Shiny is good though :)

Old vs new:

The new one is a hell of a lot lighter than the old one.

Template for cutting:

It was really easy to fit ~2hrs including dinner break and a shopping trip to buy a new hacksaw. The hole I cut is ~3mm too small at the top - I meant to do this so I could file/sand it smooth but I cant find the right size file in the shed so its off down the shops again.

Its not really really loud, sorta RC40 on a mini loud but its really deep and growly :)

I need a no. plate that doesnt say toyota next :D

Stop tempting me to buy a new exhaust!

Good for you, well done.

hmm...

I drove 10 miles down to a pub and I stopped and there was a wee bit of smoke coming from it and it was really really hot.

Drove home and it was ok, normal temp. and no smoke but I aint exactly thrilled with it.

Still, it sounds really nice and the car isnt any slower...
