Title: How bad is this likely to be?
Post by: Rivkid on March 29, 2010, 12:04:13 PM
My g/f has apparently smashed her wing mirror (left side) today - her description is that its still attached but not very well!! She wasnt able to tell me if it was just the mirror or if any damage had been done to the part of the car where it attaches but she did say that there was no damage to the other car she hit (thank god!).

New mirrors are cheap enough and look easy enough to fit but does anyone know if its likely shell have damaged any fittings or such on the car that might make a swap out difficult / impossible? Vague question I know until I see the damage but figured some of you guys might have some idea from experience?

Its a 1995 Mk3 Fiesta btw.

Cheers

Pete

I think they are generally designed in such a way as to give in the component end and not at the fixtures, so you should find its all snapped away and the fixtures themselves are fine, IME.

That would be nice! Apparently the housing is broken but the mirror is still ok so Im guessing it cant have done any real damage. To the bay it will be then! :)

Cheers for that.

Its likely she has just probs smashed off the actual mirror itself, the mirror is held onto an external black plastic card thing.

Get a new one off ebay, they come with the main mirror & new external black card with either the manual / electric adjuster.

Removal is the card is pretty easy but its best to do it with the window down, if the MK3 is the same as my MK5,

twist & pull off the black rubber adjuster cover

then you have to remove the black card the is around the adjuster, I think its held on by 1 screw (you need to remove the screw cover first, use a screw driver to flick it off) once the screw is off, pull the black card towards you and it will come off, behind you will see the mirror is held on by 2-3 screws, but then you might see that one screw is behind the actual door, now you need to remove the door card (depends as Im not sure if you need to remove the door card for the MK3, if you do keep following below)

the actual door card is held on by 4 ish screws, you should be able to locate them - remove the screws and the door card should come off, you will then get access to the last screw to which the mirror is held on by, once the last screw is off the mirror - the mirror assembly can be removed.

replacement Fiesta mirrors in either primer or black cost around £15-20 posted off ebay, if its a colour coded mirror expect to pay around £25 for a second hand one off another Fiesta.
