Tightened to hard !   improper tools !

pah.... Ive seen them worse than that and taken them out with a hammer and chisel !    he just gave in too easy

snapped a bar for an 1 1/2 inch drive socket a few months back trying to get a stuck wheel nut out of the iveco... lucky for me Id borrowed it from the garage that had put them in too tight... luck for them it was snap on (the make) so free replacement (lifetime guarantee)

eventually bought a torque multiplier...  looks a bit like THIS 65xmultiplier... so you turn with 10lb of force and theres 650lb at the wheel nut

I recently changed the LHS driveshaft on a car at my brothers apartment block using a couple of chisels, a hammer, and a screwdriver! (Had no tools and thats all we could borrow off neighbours)

Chisel to strike the edges of the wheelnuts to get them to start, then remove with fingers. Hub nut also driven off with the hammer and larger chisel

Had to pull the driveshaft out really fast and push the new one in so we didnt lose too much gearbox oil.

Top drawer stuff LOL

youre not a real man if you cant bodge it ! and its surprising how well a hammer and chisel works....  tho Ive never managed to do that much with one before... you deserve some kind of award for that!

I was going to say Knighty I think weve tackled much more difficult wheel nut situations in the past with a hammer and chisel.

He blames VW too... I think VW would not have made it if it were a poor design, they might have thought "oh our mechanics cant get these wheels off so well just leave it like that"

What a tool, he should have used him self on the wheel!

Poison_UK

Lost a locking wheel key once and had to chissle the outer edges and then hammered on a small socket and used a windy gun to vibrate them the rest of the way out... No way on earth I would go to that kind of silly extreme...

Am I right in thinking that titanium is actually a soft metal, its titanium alloys that are strong ?

nah unalloyed titanium is pretty strong, as strong as some steels and alot lighter.
