QuoteIn unconventional but welcome circumstances, three Coventry University Automotive Design students have unveiled a heavily developed concept created within the framework of their own company. The Concept Climax is the brainchild of Simon Long, Darren Rungasamy and Marcus Rayner. They believe development of environmentally friendly vehicles does not have to mean dull designs or small city cars and have created a two-seater sports car that can run on ethanol and offers performance similar to a Lotus Elise. Other features include bringing F1 technology to the high street, with drivers being able to programme their fuel intake via their laptop and make the adjustments to the cars ECU using the Climax Control and a USB Key.

ââ,¬Å"We wish to bring Coventry back into the automotive limelight by reinventing the car of the future,ââ,¬Â says Concept
Climax M.D. Simon Long. ââ,¬Å"The inspiration for the car came from the need to decrease our dependency on oil while at the same time offering the motorist an eye catching, realistic alternative to existing sports cars. By allowing the driver to adjust
the ECU with their USB Key they can control the intensity of the driving experience.ââ,¬Â

The car is all about the driving experience - the deliberate lack of doors, forcing users to climb into the car, is intended to
evoke memories of classic, Le Mans racing cars, complete with flip up aero-screen. It is a British designed mid-engined sports car for the twenty-first century.

The Climax team have sourced components from the vast auto-parts industry in the Midlands, proving their
commitment to the British motor industry. Koni (Shock Absorbers), Alcon (Brakes) and DyMag (Carbon wheels)
have also been involved since the early development stages.

The powertrain is intended to produce low emissions from the ethanol fueled flat four engine - offering 270bhp at 6500 RPM
as standard. The lightweight design will further enhance the efficiency of the vehicle while at the same time
adding to the precise handling and the acceleration of the car.

Design of the vehicle took approximately twelve months. Following initial sketches the team went straight into 3D with 1:10 modelling. Further development took place in 3D before a finalised design was refined at Ã,¼ scale. The model was then scanned into Alias to produce a CAD model. Renderings were created using Bunkspeed.

During the first six months of the project, the students worked on the car in their spare time. In the third year of the course they were invited to work on the project as part of their professional enhancement year.

dammit!!!

link isnt loading for me.... (think its a problem on my end tbh)

but that photo above looks like a photochop to me !

it is a cgi render lol.

also some good reading here

detailing new technology to help improve aerodynamics

QuoteAlticaââ,¬â,,¢s low fuel consumption also stems from its exceptional aerodynamics. Located at the extremity of the roof at the point where the vehicle and the passing air flow separate, a discreet mechanical system generates jets of air which are alternately blown and sucked through a 2mm wide slit. Known as ââ,¬Å"Synthetic Jetââ,¬Â, the system actively controls the separation of the air flow according to the vehicleââ,¬â,,¢s speed. This innovative technique, which reduces drag and controls the structure of the air flow, is a registered Renault patent and reduces the carââ,¬â,,¢s Cd at 130kph by 15% for an energy consumption of just 10 Watts.

...and you wondered why I was asking you why you chose a design course at bournemouth over coventry next door to you.

redneck

it gives me a bit more ability to find a job after as you arent fixed to the automotive industry, and i am not stuck at home being clucking depressed, instead im going out and doing new things and having the full experience.

halls > everything

Cypher

Why do you keep thinking I am on about the school of Engineering & automotive.

A lot of what gets media attention is equally from the engineering school and the art & design school.

redneck

i was answering your question on not going to coventry. it makes sense when you do it.

Quote... Concept Climax ... Climax Control ...

Are you supposed to drive it or have sex with it?

TBH given two seats with an option for a roof and I might be able to live with that sort of thing. Looks a bit plasticy in that render though :/

Pete

Niceish, apart from the Compaq beige.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

mr_roll

I like their idea that economical cars arnt supposed to be dull cars.

Coventry Climax was a company based in coventry that produced engines http://people.bath.ac.uk/ensegb/covmax2.htm

Its a hark back to the glory days of coventry
