Im a complete noob when it comes to cars and motors and want an honest opinion about this as planning in getting a
2nd hand Mini Cooper for my first car and got a budget of around 4k (maybe a bit more if the misus chips in) but after
reading this Consumer review of Mini Cooper   Im having a second though.

spend 3800 on somthing & get an old type mini for the other 200

You can get a cooper for 4k now? blimey. Im guessing youd get a really crap one for 4k - get something else like a golf or a focus tbh.

Ive had one for about a year. Stuff thats gone wrong:

- Central locking doesnt work on the drivers door since yesterday
- The finish on the steering wheel is rubbish and has started peeling off.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I wouldnt spend 4K on your 1st car.

Get a P reg polo for well under a grand for 12 months save the other 3K+ in a savings account, add to it after the year, buy something better.

From what Ive heard they are good cars. No major probs with them. There might be a owners club website thatd tell you what to search for if youre going to buy one.

I couldnt imagine parts being expensive as some makes and servicing would be much cheaper than a BMW Mini!

You do realise that you are going to get shafted on the insurance.  Have you gotten any quotes for these cars youre considering?

You may find that youre relegated to a 1.2 Corsa/Punto/Fiesta pretty sharpish.

According to these site people are paying around 500-1k+ for insurance as i got no ncb yet I will probably pay more for it.

I suggest you go onto http://www.confused.com and try some quotes.
Put in some fake telephone numbers though, as you get every man and his dog trying to call you.
