Women at Wimbledon are again asking for the same amount of cash as the men.

Now I am 100% with the whole same job equal pay eqaul womens rights. They do the job a male does why should they not get payed the same?

In tennis though this should not be the case, no becuase males are better or work harder in their game over women but becuse their play time is that much more then the females.
They play more sets, they play more hours and they are working for longer and therefore working harder withen a match and overall have had to do more work then a female in all their games.

This is why they are payed more in my eyes.

The other day when flicking between channels I saw an interview about this, I think it was on the news and aparrently the only reson the women play less is because the people who govern the sport say that they have to play less. Most of the female tennis players dont have a problem playing for longer but they arent being given the chance to.

So basically, the officials say they get payed less because they play less, but its the same officials who are saying that they arent allowed to play longer. Seems they cant win.

Its a business. Pay as a percentage of revenue is the only fair way.

Id love to see womens sport get a bit more attention and thus more revenue for the players. Basketball, which is unbearable to watch in the male version, is a completely different and very exciting game to watch in the female incarnation.

Erm, but ignoring Wimbledon, womens tennis generates more revenue - I think im right in saying that the Womens US Open final is prime-time on US TV as opposed to a mid-afternoon nothing-slot the day after for the Mens final.
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

2005 Wimbledon Final - the womans was 15 minutes longer than the mens.

But anyway, they should get the paid the same - but they should then do 5 sets as well.

as far as wimbledon is concerned it ought to be the same money for both - same number of spectators on centre court - same coverage by the BBC who have paid a flat fee for the whole tornament and dont have to worry about advertising revenue. If anything womens tennis is better to watch (and not just because sharapova s/p is rather attractive) the mens game is all down to the serve whereas the womens game has longer rallys.

in general however it ought to be down to the revenue they generate - else it would be like saying why does david beckham get so much more than the england womens footbal captain (whoever she is).
