The Golf has now started to have a major exhaust knock on the body, but its to low to get under to do a quick job! What I would do for a set of lifting ramps or a pit right now *curses*

Ive got that to fix, also with an oil & filter change, bleeding the brakes, replacing the gearbox housing along with the seals, oil and a fair few gaskets and odd little things!

Incomes the horrible home ramps and bits of wood to give it some clearance to get up the ramp without wiping out the front bumper!

Ahhh I love road side work!

Mark

the mr2 has 8cm ground clearance at present - i have to work it up on to the lift in stages.

coilovers are adjustable so im going to screw it up a bit

I dont understand why people want to lower their cars to the point of scraping on speedbumps and being unable to mount the kerb, its madness.

I know a few people that have even modestly lowered their cars and had problems.

Mark

Mines that low because thats the way it came from japan and I havent changed it yet - its REALLY good on tracks - as I go to track days quite a bit.

Of course, lowering a car does not make it handle better.

But, it does look awesome

i dont understand why even though i fancy the arse off kate moss, i dont hang around london trying to pull her? oh hang on, its cos shes got damn fine curves.

I dont care that I scrape the Rallyes wishbones every time i leave the drive or go to the swimming pool, it looks the nuts and its got winter rims on still. I cant do drive thrus or multistoreys cos its a lefty, but it looks the mutts.

I remember at college some kids drove down the main drive to the front of the main building. Well, they tried to. Their "cool" car got stuck halfway on a pretty low speed bump. It was classic, so many people were out sat on the lawn etc. First you had they big *Scraaaappppppe* noise as they got stuck, followed by a pause long enough for everyone to have looked to see what was happening and stare, followed by the even longer scrape as they reversed back again hahaha...

Im finding it quite worrying, im hunting round the "retrorides" forum for a bit of a hoodride to replace the fuelmonster with.
Lots of them are down on their arse and they get there by cutting the springs!

:o  Do they not know its dangerous?!

Exactly. Half the time I just think "what a tosser" the same way I do when a chav with a fart can exhaust fitted goes past. If it was glaringly obvious the car had been lowered and made that much impact I could understand it, but tbh I cant tell and dont give a damn if a car is 10mm lower than the car next to it, its virtually unnoticable to me. Id rather drive the car that I can take over a speedbump, drive on a relatively uneven road, or as pointed out, into a multistorey. Why have a car you cant drive anywhere?

TBH the roads around my parents place are getting to the point where my next car is likely to have RAISED suspension. Certainly my Dad is seriously considering the Skoda Octavia Scout.

Not much difference from loading up to the limit. TBH they have been doing that for decades.

Mark

Springs are cut from the factory, if it is done right it is perfectly safe - but - It is never done right.

They usually rattle around dangerously in their cups

Damping also needs to be appropriately altered - but once again, it never is

Amateurs cut the springs with heat, which completely ballses up the spring as you can imagine.

A few amateurs actually know what they are doing so I fixed it for ya ;)

Springs should be cut cold, grinding or sawing are both probably OK providing adequate cooling is used.

Poison_UK

Springs just shouldnt be cut go and buy some Coilovers or AirRide system.

Its a case of the car came like this, Ive still got to go for a good drive and set it up correctly for the roads around here.

Im hoping Alan is going to come to the rescue and say bring it up mine and use a nice flat garage ;)

Just found this as well:
