My missus has just picked up her new car (a V Reg Peugoet 206). We went to collect it this morning from the dealer, and I spotted neither CV boots were held on. (The car was supposed to have passed its MOT this week) she wanted to see what her horn sounded like when we got outside my house, and it didnt work.

They have replaced the fog light cover, new drop links on the anti roll bar, and apparently new brake pads. I can check that when the wheels come off for alloys.

We rang them up and told them about the horn when we got in the house. The guy didnt seem *that bothered. Were having new CV boots put on when the car goes back on tuesday but I think we should have the MOT done again, as these are two quite obvious things to check that havent been done.

What can we do?

We are going to take it to a friend of our families whos a mechanic to give it a once over to see if theres anything else it should have failed on. If there is, where do we stand?

Queue BX complaining about our MOT stuff...

Pete

Put it through another MOT somewhere else so you can go back and wave the fail sheet at them & throw the book at em?

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

phone the Ministry .O.Transpost (http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/carlgvowners/mottesting/mottesting.htm) and tell them about it.

If the car isnt safe and they have done it fraudulantly then youll be sorry when something happens to you or your misses, could even be a pedestrian or child.
Could even happen to the next joe that buys from them.

The garage we bought it from claims it takes the cars to an independant garage, but I still somethings a miss.

Ive been given this advice on Migweb.
Quotewithin a certain time frame, you can go to the vehicle inspectorate and declare a bad MOT. they will more than likely start an investigation and stop the said garage from doing MOTs and take the certificate away from the person who tested it.

well within your rights to do this, so let the garage know of any faults you come across. Just do it sooner rather than later.

Serious

Get the Ministry of Transport involved ASAP as there may be even worse things wrong with it. Even if the MOT testing was done at another place they should still be doing basic checks themselves.

You might be able to get the money back under the sale of goods act too if you are quick.

Goblin

Since BX hasnt popped in yet.

Blah blah blah, Northern Ireland MOT is so much more stringent, none of this dropping it round your mates garage. Computer controlled, all tests the same, etc etc.
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

is go somewhere else and get an mot done if I were you.... ok youll lose out on thirty quick or something like that.... but itll give you a good idea of where to go next.

depends on how much you want the car too.

Garage have repaired the horn, replaced CV boots, fuse box cover, rear wiper arm  all FOC.

but apparently whilst the dealer was driving it back from the garage back to the dealers yard, the alternator broke.  so they are now replacing that.

She is now concerned over the condition of the car she has bought.

hmmm

Serious

I think thats what were doing.

Apparently the alternator was "wired wrong"

F*ck that.  were going to reject it.

asmith

Definately try to get your money back.  It sounds like that car is going to be way more trouble than it is worth.

knighty

yeah, the should be nice to you after all those problems right after an MOT... and if there not talk about how it had an MOT and it shoulden;t have been like that ;)

I always find it best to play it dumb and let them dig themselvs into a hole ;)

Weve got a friend whos a mechanic, and hes agreed to look over the car on monday.  His verdict decides whether we keep the car of reject it.
