Last weekend I went off to a visit a forum member to collect a rather tasty Santa Cruz Chameleon frame.
Later that day (after spending Ã,£18 at stif.co.uk on a crank extractor and 8mm allen key) the old Kona Roast was striped and i was left with all the left over parts.
Everything got striped down and cleaned, re-greased and fitted.
Upon Re-assembly my mate at J.E James had been getting steadilly more annoyed with me.
Call 1.
"Can you get a crown race for an FSA Pig headset?"
"No"
Call 2.
"Whats the correct size seatpin for a chameleon?"
"Dunno, Ask Stif"
Call 3.
"Whats the right sized bottom bracket for a chameleon?, this ones massive"
"FFS Nath"
So, The bike was half assembled, and bits were ordered from J.E James.
Still waiting for a new crown race, but thats no biggy, the Diacomp one seems to work for now.
I get to fit the rear disc and look in the bag of goodies for a hanger.
Nope.
Rang Santa Cruz UK and parted with my hard earned cash for a disc hanger, which should arrive today :)
Yesterday, I wander off to J.E.James to collect my ordered bits.
Some bits are fitted, some arent as I dont have the tools. Lucky I dont have to pay Labour charges at the bike shop!
Its now got a rather nice Race Face Evolve chainset and external bearing bottom bracket waiting to be fitted, and a Race Face Evolve seatpost fitted.
Fortunatly, Id also bought a new chaintool, so I could fit the new Sram PC99 Chain.
So its going to the shop this evening to have the cranks fitted, and the disc hose replaced so it will reach the disc drop out.
I cant wait :D
Need some photos :ptu:
When it comes back from J.E James, Im having the external bearing cranks fitted and brake hose replaced.
Went out on a mini epic on saturday.
Anyone want to try and follow it on a map :)
We set off from thurlston, went down the trans-pennine trail to wharncliffe. Rode around in the woods for a while (mate kept forgetting which brake was which on his bike and pitched himself over the bars a few times).
Rode from wharncliffe to deepcar (road)
Deepcar to Stocksbridge (road)
Stocksbridge to Millhouse Green
Millhouse Green to Langsett
Cafe :D
Then up this big-ass hill back into thurlston.
I made a few discoveries on this ride.
1) Id not put my bars on straight.
2) 60psi is not a good idea through claggy woods and deep loose stones.
3) Road riding is so dull.
4) Seat was at wrong angle. (owwwww)
5) The chameleon is so chuckable. I was launching it off drops and slopes the Kona would have cried about.
:)
Pics to come tomorrow! No internet at home :(
i am sat here, in a cold sweat thinking about what has happened to my beloved chameleon... :|
Your chameleon loves this sh*t :D
Its got a tasty blend of Freeride components and superlight XC gear, but with bombproof reliability in mind :D
