I want something sporty, for under 2K.

I looked at Mr2s but they are a high insurance group, especially for the 2L Turbo. Grp 20 :o Im looking at grp 15 max really.

I looked at MX5s but im not a hair dresser (no offence meant nige ;)), but I do want pop up head lights! (I just do)
I dont want a Volvo 480 (pop up lights) Ive done the Volvo thing

So, thoughts have turne to a CRX - blooming hell theyre expensive for what you get!

Now Im looking at a Prelude now, Id love a manual Vtec model - but good luck on finding one of those although something like this would be great.

Has anyone got any experience of these cars?
Are they easy to work on?
What is there to look out for?
The boot looks a little impracticable tbh Are the back seats actually useable?

Im thinking Honda - great build quality, not very expensive parts and this age of car is OK to work on for a garage...

(Im googling them now but wont be buying for 2 months atleast yet)

Thoughts people?

I dont know about the Prelude but my mates dad had an Integra for 15 years, Ive been out in it quite a few times and it was definitely anything but hairdresser ( ;)) Type R goodness too.

Literally in 15 years of good service nothing really went wrong with it, it had the clutch replaced after 8 years of wear and tear. It even ran on two spark plugs! Fantastic machines and engines, cant really go wrong with them I think.

In terms of space, there was even back seats and a boot although it was a tight fit (head against the roof for me).

If I was in your position I would (of course) be looking at another MX-5  But Id also consider MR2s, Hondas, Toyota Celica/Supra.

Ive never been out in an MR2, Id like to see how it compares to an MX-5 though in terms of fun factor.

MR2 turbo is not dear to insure.

Mine is £700 with all mods declared. I think it was 4-500 otherwise - and insurance in NI is double what it is there.

CRX - to expensive for the car imho
Soarer, all auto from what Ive seen and probably high on petrol and insurance but a bit to big and maybe when Ive been driving a few more years.
S13 - possible Ill keep my eyes open for one that I like and do some quotes on that.

Mark

s13 - weak engine. Bear that in mind. You want a 2.0 in that CA engine

I know where there may be a Citroen Xsara VTS going cheap soon :D

Dont worry about insurance til you buy a car - where theres a will theres a way :)

The mx-5 really aint a bad car if you get one in a decent colour (dont get red or smurfy blue) - rwd and perfect weight balance plus a roof that just flops down.. theyre cool in sunny summers.

Mits FTO 2.0 MIVEC tbh - they go like the clappers, the engine sounds awesome and they look good too. 2k might just get you a half decent one.

The Prelude might be a good car but it looks boring imo.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Do consider an FTO MIVEC(So either a GPX or GPvR).  Ive got one and have loved every minute of it.

Plenty going for 2k and less now.

Have a look on the owners club - http://www.ftooc.org/

Im really missing my 106 Rallye. 1.3L and 8V and just a continuos amount of revs, well upto 7600rpm on my car iirc.

But it was noisy on the motorway, didnt have a hugh fuel tank although was surprisingly practical. I loved the noise of the engine though, even from low revs. The exhaust note was a deep growl that came through the center console.

I would like the S1 rallye with a 1.6 16V engine in, thatd be a lot of fun. 130bhp as standard in a car that weighs no more than 900kgs.
