Title: my weekend...
Post by: Binary Shadow on October 03, 2009, 20:54:17 PM
has been mostly messing with my bike, had a few bits to do so it was looking like this earlier:

Hopefully fixed my rattle with a new cam chain tensioner and an oil change, also looked at fixing an electrical fault. hopefully thats all sorted now. the bike still isnt back together, need to sort out the tank as theres a hole in the paint where the seat has worn through and it needs a polish as well, gonna give it a good clean/degrease as well before i stick the fairing back on, its looking a bit messy.

is it a common thing, the rattling cam chain on the cbr? Its what I fancy for next summer.

I cant wait for a new bike, my old honda is ust too slow and heavy. Might get a Fazer600 before christmas.

Ive got my eye on a GSX1400 next year.
Should be able to keep up with the father in laws V-Max, and his mates Bandit 1250

Youd be lucky to keep up with an NSR125 on a GSX1400 !!

In your head maybe.

The difference is, Ive ridden both a GSX1400 and an NSR125.  The GSX will do 0-60 in under 4 seconds, and will spin round the top number on the speedo.  The NSR will give you a headache, and a 0-60 in a boring 6 seconds.

As have I. In a straight line maybe. No WAY you could keep up with a 125 on one of those 2 wheeled twin-shock tractors on any sort of a B road. Theyre just not my thing. I like suspension thats trick & modern - strong brakes, and some protection.

My dad had one for a while before he wised up and bought the zx-12 (off me!). Torquey yes. Suspension and brakes are a joke, and it falls apart in front of your eyes (Like most suzukis). Good helmet storage - but thats about it.

Here is the old POS. 2 years old at this point, and ready for scrap. Granted, it wasnt washed enough - but you expect things to last better than it did nowadays. (Ancient picture from old nokia!)

to answer the question above, seems to be a common issue on the cbrs, rattle around 3k rpm.

not sure if iv fixed mine yet, everything seemed to be going well but iv had a nightmare today and chipped the paint on the tank to make things even worse :(

Ill ask the brother tomorrow if its a common issue - hes a head bike mechanic for a honda dealer.

id say its almost certainly the case even if honda wont admit it, manually adjustable cam chain tensioners are manufactured and sold specifically for this issue
