Managed to get hold of some Forester Sti front HID headlights, Ive already got HIDS on mine and the only difference being the blacked out surround.

Im hoping it will be an easy job to swap them over although I know the front bumper has to come off    but Ill need to swap the bulbs over as the JDM ones dont have any.

Is there anything I need to be aware of ? The bulb holder has a nasty looking beware you might kill yourself type of sign on it

Disconnect the battery and youll be fine.

they are ridiculously high voltage, as with all headlight bulbs dont touch the glass directly

The only reason that you shouldnt touch the outside of halogen/hid bulbs is down to the reason that they used quartz instead of glass as the covering.

Quartz... is porous, allowed the oils and sweat to penetrate into the bulb. When heated caused hot spots to develop within the interior of the quartz covering of the bulb, and caused the bulb to allow the halogen gas to escape. Which meant the tungsten inside evaporated too quickly, and bang... the blub blows.

At least thats what Ive been told in the past. No idea if it is an issue with glass covered halogens, but believed that it was no longer a massive issue due to the non-porous nature of glass. Oils evaporated off of the external glass quickly, and no longer posed a potential problem after a few minutes use.

I just read an article on Xenons that says that the 2-3 kV is applied as a starting pulse to get the arc going, after which the supply is regulated back down to under 100vdc. All of this would be zero with the supply off as Max says.
Youre also supposed to have headlamp washers and self-levelling to comply with EC regs (my Mondeo has); were your lamps factory fit?

Thanks guys, will make sure everything is disconnected first - as I said Ive already got factory fit hids, headlamp washers etc, Im just replacing my EDM ones with JDM ones.

Do they need adjusting after fitting though ?

yeah, youll certainly want to get them aimed, or do it yourself.
