Title: New car
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on August 12, 2008, 23:40:45 PM
Ive now got a metallic blue 5 door 1998 Renault Clio 1.2.

Its utterly, utterly crap and I want my Mazda back :(

But aside from that, there is what looks like very thick, black residue - like thick oil - under the filler cap. Is that a problem? I know white mayo isnt good, but theres none of that. The car seems to run fine anyhow.

Just thought I should check.

Look at it this way, at least you didnt get a Fiat!

Black residue I would suspect means its probably way overdue for a oil change.

My brother now has a new Fiat Panda, not too bad a car and better than his old Amica.

Clockd drain the oil, flush, clean off the residue, put new oil in and see what happens in a couple of weeks.

I nearly ended up with a Fiat... :disappointed:

I thought that might be the case Beaker. Its recently had the filters changed, but I dont know about the oil itself, so it could be leftover from an overdue change. Ill have an investigate.

Cheers guys.

I think Fiats have a much worse rep than they deserve. My 05 plate Punto Sport is awesome and dirt cheap to run, yet just feels really great quality inside. Would definitely buy Fiat again.

all relatively new cars are basically the same these days, back in the 80s and early 90s there was a gap in quality but manufacturers cant afford that anymore

Was talking to an old boss, and hes cursing the Fiats they have in at the moment.  Hes actually wanting the Fiestas back.  While they are a bit crappy in comparison to others, at least they dont break constantly.

mayonnaise under the oil cap is 9/10 condensation and wrongly diagnosed (Thanks to the internet) as HGF

Yeah, wot beaker said. I just relate to the feeling of 5 loss. You left her for a clio, how could you do that?

I still miss my mx5!

I miss my golf as well, sick of the civic.

Was the mx5 a import or UK spec Nige?

You see, I toy with the idea of selling my rallye every day almost. But really, I dont need anything bigger, the fuel economy is good, tax is cheap, not as cheap as some new cars however.

Its pretty perfect for what I use a car for now and the only car I could see me replacing it with is something like an MX5 or a smallish coupe, like a ~99 Hynudai Coupe (they look good I think)

I dont really want to see my car either as itd just be sad, me and my car have gone through a lot of things.

It was an import with AC, although I never had it regassed.

Im getting used to the car now, its bloody dangerous in the wet though and needs new tyres. I have to keep reminding myself Im not in the 5 and cant thread it through a roundabout at 40mph, but even at slow speeds to wheels spin with little power. The ride is softer at least. My suspicions of French build quality have been confirmed though - all the handles inside are coming away from the panels.

Apparently the bloke that bought the MX-5 off me said in his feedback that he "had the drive of his life" on the way home. Bastard.
