The new comupterised MOT system has been down for the last 2 days.
 I was speaking to a mechanic friend today and they have been having to use the old paper system to give people temp MOTs.

So as usual with this country, they spend millions making a new system when the old one was fine, put prices up and then it doesnt work right  

another miss managed large scale goverment project perhaps?

last time I had an mot done (and passed!) I was told i might as well come back in a few hours because it was going to be at least 45min for the system to print out the certificate :s

The old system was far, and still is far from fine - the standard of testing in some places over there are absolutely shocking (Theoretically they should be all the same, but it isnt - I have direct experience with some just MOTd cars from the mainland) - some of the rubbish that passes the MOT over there is fit for nothing but the scrappers.

One MAJOR disadvantage is the wait time and when they went on strike last year - the backlog is still being cleared

*sigh* a good MOT test station will do just as good a job as those big national centres.  The plac ei takemy car works on Citroen & Peugeot, nothing else.  Yet At the moment i own a Honda, and the last time i had a french car it was a Renault 19.  Some people dont gothere because hes "bastard", yes he is, but he always gives me a good advisory for the next test, and hell not let anythign through that isnt spot on.

where r you going for MOT on the mainland? If its crap report it, if you didnt you cant complain at all.

there are a few places that are dodgy. i could name half a dozen local garages that will pass your car for some beer money.
but i think that shows up a problem with how easy it is to become a tester not that there is a problem with the test system.

yeah im more inclined to think that its the more down to the tester than the station.  We have a DOT station about 10 miles from where I live, and they have a habit of being "Borrowed" by Trading Standards as well as doing theirown enforcement.  our local Bus company isnt allowed to test its own buses anymore

Still moanin bout MOTs, That about 3 threads youve infectid with that dribble.

Youd be moaning too if you had travelled 400 miles several times to collect cars that have just passed their MOTs to find theyre unroadworthy - after spending 100s on the boat and fuel for the lorry!
