Chris

Got knocked off my sodding push bike on the way to work this morning, and the dozy f**ker who did it didnt even have the courtesy to stop and see if I was OK.  Bastard.  It was on a roundabout, I was turning right, and some git either didnt see me or thought he could go through me.  I had my lights on and was wearing a High-Vis jacket so it wasnt like I was in stealth mode or something.

Hit the back wheel, which buckled it and seized up...  Ironically this acted as a brake and slowed me down sufficiently for it not to hurt too bad when I hit the dirt... No real injuries to speak of, just my pride really - although my hand hurts where I stuck it out to break my fall.

The 5-O will be round later to get a statement, aparently.  Wont hold my breath for them to catch him though, as I didnt get the number plate while I was lying in the middle of the road.

its bead enough hitting you, but not stopping = major twattishness !

also... yeah the police are pretty much a waste of space tbh :(

Ahh crap, sorry to here that, Far to many people still stuff bikes. To many think there are cars, vans and trucks and nothing else.

I rememember at college I was riding to it and at a crossing at a roundabout which was in front of it. I got waved on by some women in a suit who was doing make up as well. so I ride into the road heading to the centre bit before looking left to cross the other lane and WHACK, she hit me and I got nice scrapes in clothes and bike. I had to ask to go home, explained to teacher as my clothes were ripped.
She thought I had gone as she was not paying attention, I got a "sorry I did not see you, thought you had gone already" from her, I got up moved off road, said I was ok, she got a few beeps from cars behind and said "sorry I need to go" and drove off.

Glad your ok though, shame about the bike damage, that quite bad, your lucky.

That sucks :( No witnesses or anything either?

Eggtastico

with the amount of accidents you seem to chew through, maybe its time you stayed off the road - or at lest learn how to use one correctly.
cant be down to bad luck with all the car & bike crashes youve had.

soopahfly

Thats Binary Shadow.  Chris seems to be OK IIRC.

Chris

Was gonna say, Ive not had an accident since some idiot woman crashed into my Daewoo Nexia while it was parked and I wasnt in the car... and that was in 2005!

Must have been a few, but as I got up pretty much straight away (didnt fancy laying in the middle of a roundabout for too long) I guess everyone decided I was OK and didnt need to stop.

DEViANCE

gutted, you alright?

you notice the car/colour?

chances are theyll use that roundabout everymorning at about the same time. Get the Number plate and/or vigilante their ass.

Quixoticish

Any chance that there was any CCTV in the area they can use to track down the driver?

Chris

Well I actually went down the station to report it, so its in their hands now really. I got the colour/size of the car, but not the reg as I was busy laying in the middle of the road.  I go the same way every day, but at differing times so I doubt I will see the car again, but I will keep my eyes peeled for sure.

I Dont think theres any CCTV on the route either, so I wont hold any hopes of the driver getting caught, but you never know.

It does remind me about when I nearly plowed into a group of cyclists on a dual carriageway roundabout in town. There was a group of them, maybe a dozen. The first few entered the roundabout when it was clear, which was fair enough. It was when the rest followed like sheep that the problems started, I slammed on my brakes and ended up staring at 2 cyclists inches from my front bumper, with a small group about to cycle into the side of my car.

Im all for cycling, but there are some places that they shouldnt go, busy roundabouts being one of them :(

Part of the issue here I guess though is that we have an unusually large number of foreign/english languages schools, and lots of asian students. As a result they are all used to cycling, but not used to the amount of cars or the highway code, and never wear helmets :(

And where should they go? Perhaps we should ban dangerous and polluting cars from using roundabouts?

Yes, I know the problem of people coming to the country and just going on a bike, we have them around here too. Some of them rate suicidal.

Poison_UK

Glad your okay and in one piece.

Cyclists in Newcastle are crazy, walking from the City Centre to Heaton and one of them comes into the Pedestrian side of the path and full on clips me in the back, he never stopped or anything just kept on riding.

God save us from Cycle Club Dickheads, who seem to be in the majority these days.  When I was in my teens I was told that riding in the tha pack is fine, but if youre on a busy road then 2-abreast is the most you should be doing.  These days it seems that there are a bunch of pricks all in a pack that think they can take over the entire road, even when its a 60 limit.  Never mind the danger they are putting themselves in.  I got stuck behind a pack the other day heading up to Windermere, after about 10 minutes making sure i was visible, and that they knew I wanted to get past I gave up and just overtook them on a bit I knew they would all get covered in my spray.
