Hey All,
Hows things?

In the last week I been driving along and my JVC Player has started to cut out while driving. Switches off them back on again.
And in the last day or so I have been stopped at lights and I can see my volts fluttering and the car making a noise from lower to higher standing sound. Once at lights the whole car died, no power (But the hazzard lights worked)

I have no idea what this could be. At just a wild guess I am thinking of a grounding wire issue or something else?

I have not got any ideas.

Stay tuned, it may be the iphone car dock that goes into the power socket in the dash. Only been doing it since I got this.

Told you not to buy JVC. 

Do not think it is the iphone holder, Not sure what it is.

Newish battery, beefy and all good it seems. Why would I loose power driving via alternator but then it flick back on again?

Sounds like a loose/damaged/corroded earth strap.

Just buy an earthing kit from a boy racer type store. Much easier than chasing earth faults

As I mentioned to neXus on MSN I'm pretty sure the alternator only charges the battery, it shouldn't ever cause any problems like this (other than finding your car won't start one morning).

Sounds like a faulty (loose) connection either ground or power, could also be that power leads are connected to wrong powerline or if there is two powerlines  (main and standby) that they have been mounted to wrong powerline.

Not quite, the alternator provides electricity all the time it's being turned over by the engine, I've had cars running with no battery in at all, while going to get a replacement. Admittedly it's unlikely to cause any issue while the car is running but if something is draining the battery excessively then there is a possibility that it could end up like this. It would mean effectively stalling the car's engine in some way. So an intermittent short or cut out issue might be a possible cause.

Unfortunately the only real people to know might be those at a garage. Some cars have an unusual tendency to develop specific and occasionally unique faults.

agreed
my battery has corrison & been eating the earth bolt - it was mostly fine, but just lacking that bit of oomph
then in winter weeks it just died. replaced the bolt & all living again

I think it was exactly that egg. The battery was replaced several months ago but the bolt holding one of the connections has lost its threading and was loose. I have replaced it and it's as tight as I can get it.

Will see today if that fixes it.

Don't forget to proof the bolt against corrosion

I did not read first post properly, missed the part of engine dying once, yeah most likely a lose battery connection and Serious adwise is good.
