Just curious what youre meant to do when you have things stuck in your tyre?

I checked my tyres over before setting off to return home from the lakes on Sat morning and noticed my tyres had a lot of small bits of stone stuck into the tread (not wedged in the gaps, actually sticking into the rubber). Ranging in size from 1-2mm to 3-4mm, and the same depth. Do you leave these or should you take them out? I drive over a lot of gravel which is where I am guessing this stuff came from.

However more importantly I noticed what looked like 2x 2mm bits of metal, maybe nail heads, in one. I drove home without messing about with them as I figured theyd been there a while, maybe not the most sensible of options!

Guttingly when looking for them today, Ive now spotted what looks to be a 10mm diameter screw-head embedded in a tyre! At first I thought it could be a plug from a previous repair, till I noticed it was metal. I gave it a poke and heard air whistle out >< So its a trip to a tyre shop tomorrow morning I think! So long as I avoid going fast I am guessing it should be ok? Only seems to leak air when I try to remove it, or should I swap the wheel to the spare/space saver for the 10 mile drive to the tyre shop?  Theres a few tyre places that are closer, but which I dont really want to use if I can avoid it!

the stones that are stuck in arnt a problem, they will only be a few mm into the surface.

any metal/nails etc may have gone right through and if they come out when you are moving at speed it can be nasty, go to a garage and get the removed and the holes repaired, it is pretty cheap as long as they are not near the side wall, it will be fine to drive in the short term.

Also NEVER poke around at somthing that is stuck in a pressurised tyre, if the tyre blows in your face it can kill you.

Always used to remove stones etc from tyres as part of a service,
But that was back in the days when cars used to be serviced.

Binary Shadow

Strangest thing i ever found in my tyre..

10mm combination spanner, picked it up on a round about and booted the car up to 50mph, the noise was horrendous and it tore the arch liner up really well to.. ruined my day.

Stones and grit get rubbed off pretty sharpish when you drive anyway so id not bother trying to get them off.

launch control, clutch out, goodbye stones :)

Well the 2 nails hadnt gone through the tyre. But the 1.5" screw was straight through ><

Makes me wonder how long theyve been there, and when I must have obviously driven over someones toolbox!

Worst thing i had is Arch Liner fall off doing 70mph on the motorway and as such disintegrating as it wrapped itself around the wheel, ofc it bellowed out black smoke as well :P

I was doing a job once & one of them big dumper trucks had a brick jammed in their tyre.
ended up having to use crowbar & the a tractor shovel pushing down on the crowbar to get the brick out.

In the tyre the worst thing Ive had was a screwdriver, so not really too bad as things go.  Still cost me a new tyre.  I picked up a 1" screw last week, which has cost me £50 for a new one.  Ive also had a lump of brick trapped between the tyres of a double wheel transit, that was fun as I couldnt pull over, and my boss was behind me until he realised it was there.  He decided being behind me wasnt a good idea!  Cost him a new pair for the van though!

Only cost £14 to repair the tyre.

Goodbye clutch too, as I found out today.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Not much chance of doing my clutch in - even with launch control!
