Hi guys,

I dont really do a vast amount of driving and I certainly dont tend to go far but after last weekends attempts at following directions through Stoke I thought I would invest in a sat nav. I dont need a big fancy thing with maps of the moon etc.. just something that will show me easily where Im going in the UK. Im guessing the scrolling screens ones are easier to follow but correct me if thats nonsense! Would be nice to be able to update it too if possible.

Any suggestions? (and dont say buy a map!)

Cheers,

Riv

Tomtom One/Go.  Should be able to get a cheap one from E-Bay.

So much better than these Naff Garmin efforts.

All of them you have to pay for map updates nowadays, unless your a crafty butcher, delivering up the back passage.....Tomtom maps are available.

Pete

lol I just came on to ask the same thing cos my garmin doesnt pick any satelites anymore.

Dunno which out of those is best. Theyre 150 at halfords.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Id go for a tom tom for sure. Ive used quite a few diff makes, and have got to admit, the tom tom seemed the best, and most easy to use.

i shelled out for a rider v2

although it makes up for it premium (£399 for europe one  )
by including ram mounting kit and a waterproof helmet mounted bluetooth headset, can answer mobile and texts for ya on the go and calls out directions over it, currently got john clease moaning about meters instead of miles and napoleon.

its also got a battery lead to rig into the bike so you can charge on the go but not wired that in yet.

basic in car ill be recommending to mum dad etc will be the tom tom one, simple enough to use without botching up is all i could ask for them

I was going to say Navman F20.  Its my work one.  I prefer the maps and instructions over the tom toms.  Much clearer.  Though the menu and route planning are not as good.

Thats what Id have recommended too. Very nice sat nav and hasnt given a wrong direction yet.

Well gave it first run out on Sunday - went to an Animal Farm near Telford (so not far lol!!). All good except one roundabout where it got totally confused and told me to take the fourth exit (there was only 3 so number 4 was back where Id come from!) but apart from that pretty good. It was kinda tricky to follow at times - like prior to joining the m54 from Telford it didnt really show or mention the roundabout leading on to the retail park so I had to guess which way to go, however if you did go wrong it worked out a revised route straight away. All in all very happy!  :D
