From memory if you get done for speeding you can request a copy of the data/photo, and people use this as a potential way to get out of paying the fine etc if they dont send it within so much time.

Im curious whether its possible to request the avg speed you were doing on an average speed camera section of road, under the freedom of information act or anything?

Ive not been done for speeding or anything, I just think itd be cool to know, and might be interesting if I thought I was averaging 49mph in the 50 zone to find out it was 45 etc.

I read that doesnt count any more...it use to, but the police dont have to disclose anything now.

last time i went through a camera, they send a serial number along with the ticket which i filled in online to see the photo :o

no idea about average speed ones tho

Jaimz

They surely cant have a pic on the average ones because they dont take photos they just log the number plate info and calculate the time it takes to get between them?!

Yeah, I wanted to know the time, rather than get a dozen photos of my car on the motorway!

They also want to know who the driver was so they should store the full image of the front of the car, time and date stamped.

one thing about the average speed cameras is... a LOT of them are fake... (or dont work?) - all the ones on the A1/M1 are fake

also, for the ones that do work, they have to have a picture of you in the same lane each time, so they cant give you a fine/points if youre in a different lane for each photo.... (guess this only works if theres enough lanes so you have 1 per camera tho ?)    - some footballer was caught and hired himself an expensive solicitor who got him off because of this.... so now they have to do the same for everyone else :o

Mark

dont they cock up when you switch lanes

zpyder

Is that why they have those signs saying "for your safety please remain in your lane" or something?

Tek_Ed

I did hear that if you switch lanes, the camera does not clock your speed... Wouldnt like to test that theory though! Knowing my luck it would be a lie and I would end up with another hefty fine!

zpyder

Things like that have always struck me as being odd. Bit like people getting camera detectors or paints that are meant to stop your plate showing on the photo. Do you REALLY want to put it to the test?

im pretty sure someone on here said their brother in law coded the cameras and they cant handle lane changes.

but it was a while back.

they defenatly dont keep track of you if you switch lanes..... Id have lost my licence 5 times over by now if they did ;)

I dont know why they leave the 40mph etc.. speed limit on at night, when theres still 2 lanes of motorway, hardly any traffic, and no-one working there ?

^^^ probably :-(

iirc, on the m6, the cameras are turned off under normal driving... and come on when they drop the limit down to 60 :o  (I think they talked about it on topgear a while back?)
