I do quite like that ^^^^ - I always think it looks half old-tech, and half new with its discs and mud-guards etc :D

Just about the only pic of my racer that I have. under-exposed and rather crap

Ill get a better one sometime...

Only the larger Scalpel sizes have the top tube kink back up after the low point; most of them go horizontally back to the seat tube, which does look better. Its probably to do with better clearance...

Current ride, much heavier, much clunkier, less sexy :(

Seat has changed from when the photo was taken to a royalgel one and there are aerobars fitted to the handlebars now.

Still thinking of replacing the tyres with something more roadgoing.

Serious, I took a look at Wiggle and Halfords sites. City bike tires are shockingly overpriced in the UK. Over here you can get a set of really nice city slicks for under 5 pounds each, as somebodys always got them on sale. Ive had great luck with these (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=15304&subcategory_ID=5425). Wonder what shipping to the UK is.

Badabing, youre making me covet a classic Rolls. Good stuff. :ptu:

i may have to bring my SS up there and lay the smack down on those hills...

that scenery has got me aroused.  :whoops:

My Girly Dale has an extra long frontal movement ;) :P

Streetmap (http://streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=241740&y=735030&z=3&sv=241740,735030&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf)

The hill in the background is Beinn Challum. There are a lot of glens on approaches to hills where you can drive so far and then theres a landrover track many miles further, sometimes rideable sometimes not! Probably the classic one would the the way into the southern Cairngorms via Glen Derry, north from Braemar..

i am seriously tempted to blast up there and check it out, it looks crackin.

So there are places to ride up there i.e. trails and not just quick runs?

If so, is there anywhere inhabited round there i could stay (hotels, hostels etc.)?

i would, but if i bring my commanding officer, its not feasible... shes only just got out of hospital after breaking her hip in SEVEN places, she be crippled  if we roughed it in a tent... good suggestion though.

Well there is a youth hostel at Killin (an actual full-sized village, they have shops and things ;) ) at the bottom of Glen Lochay. Almost any of the glens in the Highlands have estate tracks that are good to ride, going all the way up to the end of the glen. The most interesting thing would probably be to try and find one that allows you to get over the pass to the parallel glen to do a round trip. Youd need OS  Landranger maps to see the detail.
Glen Affric has a very long track/road/path from the end of the public road about half way up it, that can be followed all the way to Dornie on the main A87 road. Youd have to take the road back to make a round trip though. There are a lot of cycle tracks around the northern Cairngorms inland from Aviemore that make for round trips; you may find them too domesticated though ;) You could try riding the West Highland way - although very much a tourist-rambler footpath, its a much more serious proposition on a bike and passes through the best of Lochaber scenery, and you could top the finish by riding up Ben Nevis ;)

Also; Tent + Mountain + August + midges = Hell on Earth ;)

There are hotels and the SYHA everywhere in the highlands, but the best vfm is in B&Bs, which havent changed much in price for decades!, and theyre everywhere.

With what stuff?  Its all freeride!  The forks are probably the biggest hurdle for XC, but I dont really do XC.  Its a means to a descent :D

My only criticisms of my own bike are:
Bars are probably too high, but theres a lot of adjustment in my setup.
Rear mech doesnt bed down into 9th properly, maybe a cable problem.
Saddle is also pointing up in the air too much

it looks burly ;) i like it, its designed for a purpose, im just not a bike fan or freeridey/DH stuff, purely due to the weight...

but it does look pimp.

i bet its still lighter than the Apollo my missus brother has just bought. i am a fit, strong guy (i think) and i struggled to lift the wheels off the floor... I sh*t YOU NOT. The wheels on it probably weigh more than my on-one.

Which model is it?

I cant wait to weigh my SS once I get the new wheels and brakes on it.  Theres got to be about 5kg of paint alone on that thing
Title: Re:Show us what ya got - 2 wheel edition!

The Apollo inquestion is some ghetto looking Full Doinger - its appauling to be honest, how they can sell such sh*t is beyond me...

A fully rigid, steel bike with half decent tektro brakes and maybe even a single speed setup would be good - its just for cruising around on and the gears will never be serviced or looked after.

Thats what I was going for with mine, but I fear Ive put too much effort in to it and now Ill be too scared to chain it to lamposts and leave it outside college overnight like I used to.  Its gonna be a bit more of a theft magnet compared to how it used to be, but I reckon people would struggle to make a yellow SS with sawn off mech hangers look inconspicuous.  Id probably be able to hunt it down again without too much trouble :D

Kinda wanted to make it a fixie to thwart thieves after I read this (http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2006/aug/PeteBurchell.htm) :D

QuoteRumor from the South Side is that the guy broke an arm and a leg and had some lacerations. He crashed going into a graveyard that is a local cut through after about 2 blocks of searching for the brakes...

gears are pretty much pointless on street hacks like the bikes kids and people who commute to work use. Very few actually use their gears - they sit in one speed the whole time and after 3 or 4 months the mech is rusted and beaten to a pulp anyway. SS is perfect for most things - except racing (unless your me! :)).

Thats partly why I have a cheapo bike with a thick metal rope to chain it to lamposts for, make them use as much effort as possible to remove it and so also make it not worth bothering to do.

If you have arthritis or other joint problems then the gears are used pretty often so for some a single speed isnt the best option. There are also loads of banks locally to add to the problems too.

Quality.

Sorted out a couple of niggles on mine, bars straightened and seat leveled.
Did 15miles on saturday, and now my shoulders ache across the tops.

Need to replace front mech at some point, the shiftings sloppy.

/me prices up XTR and X0 mechs.

Weigh yourself on a reasonably accurate digital scale, then weigh yourself with the bike on your shoulder. ;)

When Im in the mood for pointless weighing, I balance mine vertically with the rear brake locked, on a vintage delicatessen scale.
