Great, become a brand whore.  What you buying next, ferrari aftershave?

You can undoubtedly get more for your money by buying a bike from a bike company, and you wouldnt look like you won it in a raffle.

Crap spec for Ã,£500...

Only specs I recognise are the rims and tires. Alex DM18s are fine and strong for cross country, and Maxxis tires are the "upscale" brand for OEM maker Cheng Chin out of Taiwan. Nut wrong with them, but they are rather inexpensive. If I knew what the mech spec was, it might make sense--they could have popped their nut on those things and stayed cheap on the wheels, which again, are basic, but not bad tall. Likely though, its just a run of the mill Taiwanese bike with a 100 pound markup due to the Subaru decals.

Best mtb value Ive seen in the UK are those nice On-Ones BBs been gushing about. ;)

incredible bikes... seriously.

FC2K, if you want a more affordable SS, price out a Redline Monocog. They should be more affordable.  Ã,£237 retail over here.

The On-One geared bikes dont look like theyre likely the best value in class, but they sure do look nice as well.

While youre at it, pick me up a Pompino, geared 2:1, with Tufo 35mm cxcross tubular-clinchers. :D

Pete

I dont quite get the bike-rack mentality.

The colour scheme doesnt translate well at all - fugly. Itd be naff on the back of a scooby.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

im washing my hair most nights... and most days...... but thanks for the offer...   :whoops:

in all seriousness though, SS is the way to go for off roading on the cheap - its simple, so no replacing or repairing pranged mechs etc; light and most off all fun - as youre not mucking about with gears and are just getting on with riding...
