The importance of regular medical check ups...
on: June 20, 2006, 18:15:57 PM
Been training hard for the last few months, but during this time ive noticed my max power output - specifically during running and cycling - has dropped or at the very least been harder to acheive. My lungs felt tight and i really felt breathless and stressed when cranking the power out.
For instance - sunday, full on ride, 20miles - including some hard climbs - averaged 18mph - which isnt amazing, but for the course was respectable. i got home and spoke to my girlfriend - i struggled to talk and felt as if someone had poured concrete into my chest - it was quite distressing...
Ive just been to my doctor and hes prescribed me an inhaler - it appears ive had a chronic lung infection, which has lead to bronchitis. Having used the inhaler the effects are incredible i feel 100% better now - its no longer a strain to breath!!!

Moral: dont listen to people (like my dad) who say its soft to go and get medical issues checked out - especially if youre exercising regularly/training hard. God knows what i would have been like if i had left this complaint for much longer, but i cannot wait to train again with my triathlon club - the effects should be noticeable to say the least!
