the spirit of it at least. Id rather go for a modern tire diameter, but the porteur and classic Japanese touring bikes are quite the inspiration.

LOL, its just a small frame is all. How about this one:

I love the curve of the bar. I wouldnt bother with such things as the old levers and saddle though. :P

Im totally intrigued by this French-Japanese classic bike thing. :D

Its only a wheel size

Cant see how much difference that would make, beyond making cheap tyres harder to come by.  I got thoroughly pissed off with my first peugeot because of its stupid french non-standard nature.  It was an absolutely amazing bike to ride, but having to spend 3 weeks hunting every time you needed something like a longer stem or a new headset made it unbearable

Having said that, as soon as I wrote it off I went straight out and bought another one.  Thankfully in the 5 years or so between the two bikes being made, Peugeot had decided to go with the rest of the world on headsets and fork steerers.  Seat post was still retarded though, but thankfully the previous owner had gone through the hassle of getting that replaced already :)

My next bike related purchase is still bouncing around my head like an overactive eight year old.  Theres something nice on ebay at the moment, but I have a sneaking suspicion it will go for far more than I am willing to pay.  And brant still hasnt told me when hes getting more pomps in  :(
