Bit of tidying up done on the MR2 today - have had it running a few times now and it seems to be ok - nothing unusual so far.

Im starting to put its initial map on it to get it through the MOT and to get it run in. Once Ive about 1000 miles on it Ill go for a proper map.

Few pics from today

Tidied the wiring and pipework in the boot up, and also added a new wideband o2 controller - the innovate LC-1 I had failed on me (And coincidentally also failed in another car at the same time, so decided to try another brand - pretty impressed with this one so far)

Had to make a downpipe for the exhaust from turbo to exhaust - have been putting this off for a while, so chose the easy option and made up a pipe with two stainless ends and bendy pipe in between - I will fabricate this from stainless eventually, but just dont have the time to spend on it right now

Shot of downpipe from below, you can also see the top of the wastegate

Made up a few pipes for oil and water feed - will probably make these from better stuff once I have it run in

Quick shot under the lid as I start to put the intercooler pipes on

more to follow tomorrow when I put the boot lid and panels back on. Didnt bother taking any more tonight, but have the intercooler pipes etc all on, and the catch can tidied up.

Need to sort out idling - the 1000cc injectors arent the easiest to work with!

looking good.... fitting it all in is the tricky bit.... makes me glad I grew up working mostly on transit vans !

whats the steel pipe comming from the top of the turbo on the exhaust side ?  looks a bit like a tempriture probe thingie ?

also liking the watercooled turbo.... dont know why theyre not all like that.... 2 have been killed on vans at work by guys who go flying down the motorway, into the services and then shut then engine off for 20 min while they take a break... come back and (Im guessing) the oil in the turbo has burnt - kills it as soon as they start up :(

That is indeed one of the 2 EGT probes. I have one there and one in the manifold before the turbo. The one in the manifold is linked to the ECU - the one you can see is linked to a gauge on the dash.

Excellent work as always Mark! :D Im always checking for new threads from you!

Are you doing all this to keep it for a fun car?

Or are you going to sell it once its finished ?

always looks good
